The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
To simplify, a lot, your phone is generating the Wi-Fi signal so if your tablet is connected to Wi-Fi the tablet is good and the phone is doing that part of it's job. The phone provides the internet connection over the cellular connection. It takes the data requests from the tablet via Wi-Fi, goes to the internet via the cellular connection to retrieve the requested data which, it then sends to the tablet via the Wi-Fi. The tablet being connected to Wi-Fi, but no internet, means the phone is not returning the requested data packet from the internet to the tablet. Check the phone's signal strength, a weak signal will take longer to transfer data and the request may take too long and time out making the tablet think there is no internet. Check the data plan on the phone. Many cell phones require a separate data plan to use the phone as a hot spot, the phone will generate the Wi-Fi connection but it won't pass any data. Check if the phone's data plan has been exhausted. It is easy to blow through the monthly allowed amount of data. Completely power the tablet and thenphonenoff and the restart them. After they restart, try the connection again. SpinZones makes good points, Do you have access to wifi at home or close by in a diner, startbutts, library, if so take the tablet there and see if it connects to that wifi (free) and if the internet comes up, if so it's the connection like SpinZone said. You may want to contact your cell provider and check on hotspot access as well as data use.

Assuming the cellular signal is reasonably decent (say two bars or better) and the phone is connected to a cellular network rather than WiFi, itself: Reboot the devices one-at-a-time and try again after each reboot. When we had Samsung tablets I never found Samsung tech support to be terribly useful. The truth of the matter is most software is crap. "America is at that awkward stage. U s Cellular, Samsung and Motorola were zero help over the phone. (4 hours of no accomplishment) Drove to the U S Cellular store. The nice gal there figured it out in four minutes. Seems since obtaining my tablet, I've increased my Internet time . . . . . Considerably! Today was the last day of my monthly allotment and my time slowed to a crawl. First time that's happened. And using the phone as a hot spot cuts my rate by 1/3. So 30 minutes per day is my max on the he tablet. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. It's not time spent on the Internet that does it, it's what you do with that time. E.g.: Most web pages, and particularly those of clean sites like this one, result in relatively little bandwidth consumption. At the other end of the spectrum is streaming from such as YouTube, NetFlix, etc. We have a cellular Internet backup connection in the ensigmatic household. On the rare occasions our primary Internet connection (Comcast Business High-Speed Internet) goes down the router automatically fails the Internet connection over to a cellular modem on T-Mobile. That line has a 6GB monthly data cap. One UHD stream would blow through that in less than an hour. A Full HD stream in about two. So: When I get a notification our Internet connection has failed-over to the TMO backup and it stays failed-over for more than a few minutes: If we're streaming something on our Apple TV set top box, we stop. I don't understand what this means Again: Depends upon what you're doing. "America is at that awkward stage. maybe get an unlimited data plan, basically all cell phone plans are data access plans anymore, making calls is secondary to them...

and in a similar... The 4 year old developmentally delayed boy my Daughter is raising was able to find, download and install a game app on his tablet. I used to fair pretty well with tech... Now? I have been left behind and need someone to show me the "ON" button. Collecting dust.

Yup, that'll do it, alright. Unlimited data plans usually (?) don't allow unlimited tethering. "America is at that awkward stage. It’s not all about using it, which can be fun; a lot of fun can be had learning how to use it. Just ask any teenager. Life moves pretty fast. I know A 70 y.o. lady , with a great brain that can grasp the tech involved in today's stuff. She is a retired R.N. and a p.h.d.. I find her abilities remarkable. Phones, p.c.'s, tablets. TV's , she doesn't give up, she was working for four hours on something, and figured it out. With my 66 y.o. dyslexic, a.d.d. brain. It's a challenge for me and the teacher. And sense of gratification or accomplishment dissipates immensely when Joey the third grader says " yeah , it took me four minutes, on my phone at lunch" Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Whatever the solution to whatever the problem, write the solution down carefully in detail. That way, you can use it again in three or four weeks when the problem recurs... === I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.
