Do I ever!

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

(all else being equal) I find myself completely opposite as a hiring manager - I'd rather get 5 years of outstanding contribution from an "experienced" person than deal with bringing in an entitled fresh college grad and getting crap before they jump.

I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not

That worries me. I have 18 months left at my current job before I collect my pension and I dont plan on staying there a day later. Not sure what I am going to do and there is a shortage of good paying jobs in North Dakota.

Hopefully I can find something that is 8-4 m-f

Start by talking up your 5 year plan with your current employer. Companies love to dump you before you can get your pension

I was laid off at 58 in 2017. I got lucky. Picked up a contract systems engineering role in 30 days, and got hired full time to manage the group in 2019. Now, I'm hoping for a layoff, or early retirement package. I won't be that lucky. I'm still somewhat effective. Ageism is in fact, alive and well. The resume advice in this thread is spot on. 20 year history max, and 2 pages.
