We have commute traffic around here. Relatively not too bad in this area but it exists.

As such, we have metering lights on on-ramps to highways. Usually there is a carpool lane to bypass the lights.

Daily, there will be at least one solo driver who will use the bypass lane. Enforcement is lax.

Does this speak to character? Am I just a sheeple for adhering to the light in the absence of enforcement? Or are these people just entitled assholes?

I'm a rule-follower. I'm not a line-stepper. I don't believe that makes me nor you a sheeple.

Yes, I would consider the other guy an entitled asshole. I'd guess he considers his to be a "special" case.

Nah, you're just the kind of guy who wont take the tag off his mattress or sell those packs of gum labeled 'not for individual sale'.

Where can I get one of these gun packs? Are they like those crates of Mosin Nagants and Siminovs?

I don't like the metered on-ramps, but I follow the law anyway.

We have a few of the metered ramps here in Houston. I'm not typically on that side of town, but back when I used to frequent that area, it wasn't uncommon for people to just blow through them.

We recently got an HOV lane added to the highways near my house, an extra lane without a concrete divider, but with a double white line; not uncommon to see single drivers & or people using it for a passing lane & crossing the double white.

You are doing right.

It is like a guy who never stops at stop signs.

They do not have to follow the rules. Everyone else can roll up to a stop sign and wait their turn, but not some people.

Well said GaryBF. And no, the OP is not a sheeple. He's just one of those that make everything work better.

I'm with you. Apart from going over the speed limit, I would go up to the line of the law but I never break it intentionally or with forethought.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I don't care which side of the line you fall on, by chance or choice, but if you ever speed or jaywalk or not pay sales tax on every single internet order you've ever placed - and you (the universal) think and describe yourself as somehow superior to others over various laws they treat casually, you're not superior - you're just a garden variety hypocrite.

(Not directed at the OP in particular but a general observation instead)

You're either entirely lawful or you aren't. The rest is purely subjective nonsense.

Parking in the fire lane, or not returning carriages, or parking in handicapped or veterans parking when you are neither. Just a trip to get some groceries is annoying. Sick of people.

Not really, sorry. Some stuff directly impacts individuals (parking in the last handicapped spot making a crippled veteran have to walk much farther than necessary) vs. not paying tax on a $5.00 toothbrush you bought on Amazon which equates to .35 cents. It has nothing to do with the law, but it is black and white. You either give a shit about other people or you don't. Cutting off a whole line of cars that have been waiting means you don't. It means you are an entitled prick.

If people weren't such idiots and not try and cram three cars into a merge lane at one time, they wouldn't be needed.

I64 and Rt29 south of Charlottesville is a good example. The sign says YIELD but there are always several cars trying to merge onto I64 east at one time. Mad

Several years ago I couldn't get off I64 safely and had to continue on east to the next exit.

There's one light on my commute, two lanes, one is turning the other goes straight. Without fail, 3-4 people fly up the turn lane and cut over at the last second. I've been rear ended there twice from someone cutting in front of me, me hitting my brakes, the person behind me not. It's always the same type of person to, without fail. I still don't do it.
