P250UA5My local Indy pool supply quit retail
Had a little independent pool store nearby that was rarely busy & had better pricing, and availability, than Leslie's. They usually had chemical in stock when the 3 nearby Leslie's stores were sold out, muriatic most recently.
Saw that they'd moved & went to the new location today to find a masked off window & locked door.
Called them & the guy, nicely, told me they quit doing retail & are in service/maint/wholesale only now.
Bummer. Back to paying Leslie's prices, since the next closest Indy shop isn't conveniently close.

frayedendsWhat chemicals are you buying? With my salt water chlorine generator I haven’t needed anything but salt. Most stuff can be had at Home Depot or the laundry aisle in a supermarket. Baking soda for alk. Washing soda for pH up. Muriatic at HD. Calcium Chloride at HD. I have no need for a pool store. Even when I had a chlorine pool I got the pucks online. Might have been “in the swim” IIRC.
These go to eleven.

OP metioned muriatic. Hydrochloric might be an acceptable substitute.

I assumed he meant more than that. Nevertheless hydrochloric and muriatic are the same thing.
These go to eleven.

P250UA5Good to know, just the usual stuff. Having a pool party tomorrow for my kid's bday, so getting the pool buttoned up.
Picked up a bit of shock at Leslie's

If you don't have salt water, and need shock (I've never needed it), do you have an Ocean State Job lot nearby? They used to always have liquid shock, which was like 13% bleach. It was fairly cheap and easy to add as a liquid (just watch the splash). But you can also use regular bleach. Just make sure it's not thickened or scented. Check out the website Trouble Free Pools. Lots of info on saving money on chemicals.

TomVFor Muriatic Acid, I usually go to one of the local ACE hardware stores. Their Acid is usually the higher concentration than the box stores.
We have a Leslie that doesn't carry much more than overpriced blow up toys.
The only place in town that carries any repair or maintenance parts is wholesale only. So usually end up online for most of that stuff. If I need something, I order 2 of it, so that I don't have to wait next time.

BurtonRWOnly suckers buy “pool” chems. I get all of mine at the grocery store. Except chlorine - because it’s more efficient to use the 12.5% I can get from BJs than the < 6% they sell for laundry.
Oh, and shock is a verb.
+1 for TroubleFreePool.com. The Oracle of pool chemistry.

Lol. Context, my friend. But you made my point. None of the definitions of the noun form of shock involve pool chems.
Folks pay even more inflated prices for “shock” not realizing that it’s the same chlorine they already have.
