I have a Blink system, which is also owned by Amazon (they bought Blink a few years back).
It doesn't require a subscription, with there only being a monthly fee if you elect to use their cloud storage. I don't, and instead use local storage only, with no monthly fee.
My Blink doorbell has the same functionality as the Ring video doorbell, just the option to not be on a recurring subscription.

Solid information. Thanks for posting this. What’s done is done here, I’m not changing them and will pay the increase but I will be moving soon enough. What pisses me off is both my rings are redundant cameras. I have fixed cameras at both locations but they don’t have mics, speakers, and alarms I can run from the app. Ring does. Live and learn I guess.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

It increased to $3.99
And another increase, to $4.99
66.33% increase in price; I am sure that Amazon's cost to provide this service has NOT increased proportionately.
Jeff probably has another boat payment due.
Have you tried calling them to renegotiate? Tell them you're old with limited income.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I use Amcrest and ZoneMinder. $0/month. The only downside is that it’s all internal at the moment. No off-site back but it is recorded at the camera and at the server.

We have had the Ring doorbell for quite a few years. We recently put up a few Blink cameras, because my wife likes to see the animals that visit our yard. We're using local storage for the Blink cameras, but that does not generate an alert (unless I'm missing a setting).
If I replace the Ring doorbell with a Blink doorbell, the $4.99 / month would go to $100 / year (8.33 / month), but cloud storage would be for ALL the units, instead of just the doorbell, and alerts could be received from everything. Might be a better idea, but first I'll take a look at what Mark123 is using.

You're missing a setting. My Blink cameras and doorbell alert my phone when there's motion, and you can click on the alert to get live video or view the saved footage.
