PASigAnother Winter Driving Pet Peeve
Roads are very narrowed down due to huge amounts of snow. The shoulders are buried and two cars on many stretches driving opposite can barely pass each other safely.
YET...these people in their GIANT fricken' tank SUV's and ginormous pickups are driving with their wheels a FOOT over in MY lane, forcing me to almost drive off the road into the snow.
Again I blame this squarely at these carmakers who make cars
THAT PEOPLE CANNOT SEE OUT OF OR AROUND IN.

BigSwedeCome visit the south during a snow/ice event. They like to brake on black ice and stop before trying to climb a hill that's iced

I blame the idiots that don't take the time to learn reference points on their vehicle to determine where they are in their lane. Using a combination of the mirrors, the hood, and dashboard, you can choose a reference point to keep yourself in your lane by lining up the edge of the road with said reference point.

PrefontaineThat’s why they bought the large SUV’s. Frail egos. They think they own the road. And they want everyone to get out of their way because they bought gigantor. Their attitude is F U deal with it. They do not care. They are the road going keyboard warrior.

Both can be true.

GraniteguyI will often flick my high beams/head-lights in these scenarios. The other driver thinks I'm tipping them off to an upcoming LEO but this invariably helps them focus on my vehicle and re-visit lane awareness. (a "flick" of the headlights/high's - don't blind the other vehicle in the evening hours)

Interesting. What other preconceived groups do you indiscriminately throw people who differ from you into? Judge much?

Nothing wrong with the design of the vehicles the problem lies with the idiot driving the vehicle. I've owned full size pickup trucks for more than 30 years and I know how to keep my truck on my side of the road no matter the road conditions.

ridewvYeah wide vehicles on narrow roads that encroach across the center because well "they need the room" instead of pulling their right wheels off is a common scenario here even w/o snow.
I have a Ridgeline and Civic, the Civic's fine but the Ridgeline is borderline too wide on some. There's no way I'd ever get anything wider. I can't imagine having to drive a Suburban, Super Duty with big mirrors, or God forbid a dually on narrow roads.
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

What are you talking about man? Where did I say all people that buy them? We’re talking about the ass holes in the OP. They purchase these types of vehicles, on purpose, AND drive them like this. If you drive yours like a complete ass hole, then yes I’m judging you. Don’t drive like you own the road, you don’t.

Car makers only produce the models that continue to sell at a profit.

FredwardLocally, snow is piled up but it's mostly about 4 inches high of ice encroaching the lanes. People, even in big 4WD rigs, just don't want the "bumps" of putting two wheels on the ice. Today I was coming up a hill like that, and a moron made a right turn from another snowy road, forcing me to edge further onto the ice. All she had to do was wait FIVE SECONDS and I would have been past the intersection. Yes, she was in a suburban. I've seen her before at the Kroger, she is totally unable to park the damn thing and INSISTS on backing in.

I laughed out loud at that comment. Thank you.
