I pass by a particular T intersection quite often. The top of the T is straight through - no stop. Very often, people come up from the bottom of the T, barely slow down at their stop sign, and drive right through. Mother fucking people don't stop at the stop sign. I can't tell you how many times I've had to brake hard and swerve to miss t-boning them. How fucking hard is it to stop at a stop sign? Seriously, how fucking hard is it? I wish these mother fuckers would just fuck off and die. I wish LE would install a camera there and ticket every mother fucker. I'm sick and tired of them. Video camera that not only shows the vehicle but also a seperate camera that shows the driver operating as well as the license plate.... Law needs to be so the registered owner can not claim they were NOT driving and unless they can provide who was driving then the registered owner gets the ticket. Hit them hard in the wallet to get their attention. ................................... drill sgt.

Staring back from the abyss |
If people are driving as they should be and looking both ways (provided it's in an open area where one can see a goodly distance), I really don't have a problem with them not coming to a stop. When they are careless or not paying attention and pull out in front of me, then we have a problem...but dingbats do that from a stop sign as well. We have a T-intersection on my way home. Until about a year or so ago it was controlled just fine with yield signs. Then some brain-child decided to make it a three-way stop when there is no need to do that. Most people ignore it and I'm fine with that. There's plenty of room to see in all directions. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

In my development it seams stop signs are optional, especially the kind you mention. I walk my development several times a week for exercise. I see people blow through these areas with out even slowing down. It has gotten the point where I almost do not expect people to stop anymore. Most are usually to busy on their phones to pay attention. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Don't really care if they're still at a slow roll, and actually look before they turn. My problem is the self-centered brain dead idiots who do it at 15 to 20 mph. It concerns me in my truck but terrifies me on my motorcycle. I'm not out in the country either. I'm in a county with nearly 700,000 people and most roads are multi-lane in each direction and there is a substantial amount of trees and brush (i.e. not prairie where you can see for miles). The road with the right-of-way (i.e. no stop sign) may be 45 mph to 70 mph, but there is a substantial number of self-centered assholes who: Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

I usually stop but I’m okay with a slow roll if there is clear visibility and distance. But if through traffic has to brake and swerve, you’re doing it fucking wrong. This is timely for me. I baby my vehicles and have a 2021 Pilot that I love. Not a mark in it, just a hair over 6k on the odometer. Last week, driving east on a through street, I approached a T intersection where I had the right of way and I saw a woman come to the stop sign on my right, make a California stop, looking directly at me, and pull out trying to beat me I believe. I almost got the Pilot stopped, but.... And she was mad at me! I left as the officer was finishing writing her a ticket. And the shop I want to use can't get me in till early June! Grrrrr! One of my Grandsons was down this weekend with his family and he runs some big body shop in New Jersey. He looked at my damage and reassured me that it was an easy fix, everything on the right side of the area in front of the passenger door comes off and new stuff goes on. Grrrrr again! My poor old body was a bit beat up but I think I'm back to normal, almost, but I hate it when my vehicles get messed up. Nothing I can do about it, I guess. Bob

I had a very similar experience to straightshooter's. Fortunately, I had gotten a dash camera the week before. T intersection with a traffic light, 35 mph posted speed limit. I was on the through street, green light. Woman on the side street drove right through her red light. Cop arrives, wants to speak with us separately, interviews the woman first. Comes over to me, ready to write me up, tells me that the woman claimed I had run a red light. I asked the cop, "Would you like to see some video?" Re-ran the dash camera video, showing me approaching the green light at 23 mph, shows the woman approaching from my right, then the video shakes violently as she plows into my truck. Cop says, "You're OK. Don't worry about a thing." Goes back to the woman and reads her the riot act, tells her that she's lying through her teeth, writes her up. Flo pays (the woman was insured with Progressive), I informed my insurance carrier (Travelers) but told them that they really did not need to get involved. My record with them stays clean, no at-fault accidents. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

If we say The First and Second Amendments are absolute, how can we say stop signs are optional? It's what we do when no one is looking that is who we really are. Beagle lives matter.

I read on the internet stop signs with white borders were optional. You gotta be careful walking your dog, people see you & try to hurry up so they don’t have to wait.

There is a flip side to this story. On one particular route I take fairly frequently there is a 3 way stop that breaks up a 1 mile run were it not there. The reason that 3 way stop was put in place is because there was an Elementary School at that intersection. So when it was put in place it was for a very good reason. However in 2020 that school was torn down and the county is currently putting a sewage retention facility in it's place. Note, it's in the very final stages of build and only about 10-15 vehicles are parking at that site. So heavy construction traffic is not providing a need for that stop sign. Once that retention system is finished there won't be any foot traffic of note in that area, one or two dog walkers is about it. However that 3 way stop will still be there in another 20 years. Point is there are a lot of 3 way stops out there that serve no purpose at all and some drivers are fed up with crap like this. If a stop was put in for a school that no longer exists then the local governments should be reviewing the need for these inconveniences and remove them if the factor that caused the implementation of that 3 way stop no longer exists. One of these days I intend to find the court district for that stupid stop and petition that court to have that 3 way stop removed. BTW, the cost to R&R the transmission in my car in 2022 was 1546.00 dollars. Had the slave cylinder replaced under warranty and the R&R cost would have been on me if it proved out the issue was a worn out clutch. The cost for a new flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate and slave cylinder is roughly 900 dollars. So to replace the clutch on my car is about 2500 dollars. So, yeah it does piss me off to stop needlessly for a stop sign that isn't needed. I've stopped counting.

I have multiple 2 way stops in my neighborhood, and I approach them expecting some jackass to pull out in front of me. Just this week that approach has paid off twice. There's even yellow signs under the stop sign warning drivers that CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP.

Last week. I'm on a straight through road, a middle aged looking guy in a plain white chevy work truck drives right by a stop sign from my right. I had to abruptly stop as well as someone coming from the opposite direction. He had his phone in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. He passed me driver side to driver side within mere feet and he was looking at / talking on the phone and steering with the back of his coffee holding hand just pressed against the wheel. I am convinced he never even saw anyone else on the road. A second or two later and he would have been smashed between me and the oncoming car. Collecting dust.

Many years ago when I was a traffic officer, I loved to sit at those intersections on a Sunday morning and write citations. Funny how angry church folks would get. ______________________________ Men who carry guns for a living do not seek reward outside of the guild. The most cherished gift is a nod from his peers.

I have often wondered how much stop and go traffic there would be if every vehicle had a manual transmission.

Timely thread, as I just bought a motorcycle yesterday. I am bordering on paranoia about what the other drivers might do, or if they even see me.
