That law is a fucking joke.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I thought it was a total joke a few years back when I bought a small package of stainless steel bolts at Home Depot and it had the CA Cancer Label on it. then some one here I think pointed out it was the solvent used in making the bolts that was the reason for the label....

The original idea behind the law was not really that bad a one it's just that once practically everything has the label it no longer means anything and just adds to the cost of the product.

At this point, isn't anything you buy in California has a risk of cancer? They should have it in the voting booth. By voting for your candidate, you may get cancer.

Confused If it is just additional printing on the product label, how does it add to the cost? Confused

In my small business, I had labels printed for bottling my products. The cost of the label printing was determined by physical attributes, like the size of the label, the number of colors, the finish (matte, gloss, etc.), but the actual text that was printed had no effect on the cost.

You can see this for yourself by looking at any of the numerous websites for label printing services; most (all?) of them have provisions for determining cost for a label order.

Somebody or some thing has to attach that label to the packaging...not only the cost of making the label and getting it to the manufacturer but then there is a 'cost' to attaching it to the product and probably somebody checking "quality control' to make sure they all are labeled properly... it might be only 1/10" of a cent in the end but that is an added cost. I am far from and expert in this... seems like 45 years ago I was taught some of it but time management as well as material management is important in business.

I think that you missed the point of my previous post. The container / package has to be labeled anyway. Name of product, amount of product, probably bar code, etc. Printing the California cancer warning on the label in addition to the other required information does not add anything at all to the cost of the label or the product.

I have been ordering labels for my products for more than twenty years. I can state, from personal experience, that there is no ADDITIONAL cost to put the California Cancer text on a label that is already required for a product.

All label printing companies base their prices on physical characteristics of the labels, things like label size, number of colors, etc. The text that is printed on the label has absolutely NO effect on the cost.

Label for a product will cost the same, with or without text for California Cancer, as long as none of the physical aspects of the label are changed.

V-Tail... this is a silly pissing match... but here is the thing, the California label is separate from the actual label on the packaging... which is on the other side of the plastic the patch came in pictured above.... The label was not 'free' it cost somebody something to print and then it had to be added to the package in addition to the actually label identifying the patch.

Look at the picture I posted... the blank white paper on the other side of the plastic is the label that says what the patch is with a bar code on it.

Ah, I see. Misunderstanding is cleared up. We were referring to two different things. You were apparently referring to a specific package that has a separate California sticker, while I was thinking in general terms, just putting the California Cancer warning on the product label (which is the way I would do it).

Photo shows labels that were printed to my specifications and applied to the products I was selling, along with the equipment that I had for rent. These were all sold locally in Florida; if they had been for sale in California, I would have modified the text on the labels to include the Prop 65 warning, which would not have added to the printing cost, as opposed to adding a separate sticker, as shown in your example.

Any law that does not account for the law of unintended consequences is a bad law.
