I am on Facebook to see the pictures posted by relatives and friends I have across the country. I don't do politics or current events on FB. No interest. FB knows your internet searches. For example if you have a medical issue like peripheral neuropathy, you get bombarded by ads that target your issue. So the ad will give you a tease for some product that targets your issue. I might be interested in the product, but to get to the bottom line sales pitch, you have to watch this video that seems longer than some feature length movies. Drives me crazy. So I no longer watch the videos. I figure if I have to watch the video, they don't need my business. I do wonder why they do this. I think they have to be driving away more business than attracting it.

All these videos have all sorts of fluff and BS added to them to make them a certain length, it's now they all get paid by these social media platforms I think.
I now skip all cooking videos on YT to about halfway in because they'll go on for 5-10 minutes talking about all sorts of nonsense first.

There is a setting to turn off personalized ads. Go to your profile, then Settings, then Privacy Checkup. You'll still get ads but they will be random. Many will be outright scams, too, so I never click on the ad or a link. Type the merchant's url into a new browser window, and only if it is a reputable merchant.
