The prescriptions thus far did not work. It seemed to be clearing but at the last of 6 days, down to 1 pill, I had a feeling it was not going away. For 2 days, I've had areas on my forearms and wrist which are inflamed red and swollen. Some areas similar to hives. WTF? I made a trip this morning back to St.E Urgent Care and since I don't have insurence they wanted a $95.00 copay. That's not happening just now. She said we cannot see you then. Itching pretty good tonight and having trouble sleeping. I think I will head into the ER in the morning. It is showing more on my upper arms now. Creeping crud from weeds.

I spent 4 days in the hospital with blood poisoning from a poison ivy scenario just like yours. In my case the rash and itch wasn't traveling up my arm it was infection. I'd go to the ER now.

I think I will go there now. Been using peroxide which helps with the itch. Thanks for the advice.

ER said I was supposed to get a 12 day supply of the prednisone and was only givin a 6 day prescription. I have to get that filled Monday.

been there, done that,
was given Keflex back when I was kid, since I had blisters as big as quarters, on my arms and hands,


get the oil off as quick as possible,

the bleach and salt water thing works, learned that from experience,

the prednisone or Steriod packs help, did that too,

They gave me a 52 tablet, 12 day regimen of prednisone. This should take care of it. Old timer is not going to ba happy but I've been told to work no more on his poison ivy junk yard. This is good advice.

Urgent care is a crap shoot as far as diagnosis and treatment. The nurse could not even bandage my hand adequately. The ER nurse did a great job several days earlier. The Urgent care nurse did not seem to know how to handle Tegaderm.

Half way mark this morning on the prednisone and it's knocking out the poison ivy. That dang vile plant is not good for your skin. BTW, these little pills are the worst tasting thing I ever put down my throat..ukk.

Calamine lotion ... will help with the itching... and will keep the infected area dry .... does not look pretty when the products dries and turns to a light pink color. ........ As a kid years ago had no problems with that plant but now if I look at it cross eyed it tries to get me ............................................ drill sgt.

We use Calaclear which is the clear version of Calamine lotion. Other brands also make the same thing in clear formula.

Found out that I am spectacularly part of that 12%.

Nope. No hallucinations here.

High doses of steroids can cause psychosis, weight gain and puffiness of tissues. Insomnia is also a possiblity. Osteoporosis is also likely long term. All of these side effects are treatable.

I go a few rounds with Poison Oak every year. Enjoy it best I can. Direct application blow dryer and scalding hot water give you that dog kicking his leg feeling. It will buy you 15 mins of relief or so.

I've only gone to the doc once for it. Eyes were swelling shut. I was in deep. They gave me a steroid shot and it began to slowly go away.

Best of luck to you, it'll go away soon. Just feels like forever.

I am pissy when I am on it. I know I am pissy when I am on it but can’t really do anything about it.
My wife just keeps to herself when I have to take it.
