It was a bit icy last night but this morning's drive was fine, but that did not stop this dumb girl on front of me for about 5 maddening miles from driving 15-20 mph on a road that ranges from 35-45 mph. No place to pass and not really a good idea anyway right now. UGH. Oh, and she was one of those morons who doesn't clear the 2 inches of snow off their car, only about a 12 inch "porthole" on the windshield.  | ||

I hit one of those the other night. Her windows were covered in snow and ice. She rolled a stop sign and I hit her right rear quarter. She got 3 citations. My truck was towed. | |||

With her hazard lights on, right? See that a lot here with heavy-ish rains. If you can't see well enough that you think you need your hazards on for extra visibility, stay home or pull over until it lightens/clears up. The Enemy's gate is down. | |||

We planned a trip to Lake Tahoe one Memorial Day several years ago. I had only my sedan. Beautiful day. Sometime three quarters of the way, I see highway signs saying snowchains required. I thought the highway signs must be broke, it's a beautiful sunny day. Then we started to hit snow. I spent $70 for $30 snow chains. Paid a guy to put it on. I wasn't dressed for cold and it's been so long since I put snow chains on the one time I did it. Traffic was slow, it was past sunset and dark, and we were still miles from the hotel that we'ver never been to. I was the turd that was driving 20 mph since I didn't know where I was going and I could hear one of the chains was flapping around. I thought of going to the side to let others through but I didn't. I made it to the hotel close to midnight when my schedule had that we would be there by 3 pm. The next day, driving the way where we had come, if I had went to the side of the road all along, it was a steep drop off to the river. So I'm glad I didn't stop. I apologize to you and hope you'll give noob snow drivers more patience. We all have to learn the first time. The problem I see around here is not that they are afraid to drive. More like they are too freaking stupid to have a license to walk! 70+ MPH, rain, snow, whatever. Less than 10 feet between bumpers, passing left and right, no signals. 55 speed limit. I guess they never heard about the laws of physics, or the fact that wet/icy roads are not safe at the speeds they are traveling or the interval they leave between cars. I have had them so close behind my that I cannot see their headlights. Oh, and about half of them have their faces stuck in a smart phone at the same time. Yeah, I don't like those slow pokes, but really hate those who think they are Mario Andretti or some such. One of several reasons that I'm glad to have retired, I don't get stuck behind that guy in the Cadillac Catera anymore! I would never see this car on good weather days, only snow days. Strangest thing, car was always spotlessly clean, black car, looked showroom. He would drive 20-25 mph in a posted 55. Two lane stretch of semi-rural road with passing zones but for all practical purposes impossible to do on dry pavement in good weather. About eight miles of this fun. Working in a Cadillac dealership there was some personal animosity toward this "fine" example of rebadged Opel engineering, in other words I hated the sight of those POS. Most anybody that owned one at that point was a second or third owner that complained about the price of parts and the unreliability of said car. There was a reason they were able to buy it so cheaply....... When are there more accidents on the highway? When everybody is driving 90 MPH, or when everybody is hitting the brakes because traffic has stopped/slowed in front of them? Slow/stopped cars are much more dangerous to those in traffic than those "maniacs". I have seen plenty of accidents to know this is true, and although people driving "too fast" is certainly something that causes accidents, it's usually not the speed itself. It's the driver. I don't want to hear a peep...a single peep...from people driving on all season tires in the snow complaining about others being "dangerous". Anybody who lacks the skill and equipment, regardless of speed, is dangerous. That includes all of those putzing along at 1/5th the speed limit when others are capable of safely driving faster.This message has been edited. Last edited by: a1abdj, | |||
