Consistently getting other people’s mail. if something doesn’t fit in the mail box, they don’t bother bringing it, label it as undeliverable.
Both my wife and I have watched them do this from our office multiple times.
This week I have been waiting for an important piece of mail for 7 business days, it’s coming from 150 miles away.

Yup, time to get rid of this waste of money…

Privatize it…

In 2023 it’s projected to lose $4.5 billion dollars!

They aren't as bad around here.

I say that with the perspective that the local FedEx drivers can't read and really suck at math.

My regular USPS person isn't horrible. Usually does a decent job with mail, deliveries, etc. However, the "subs" or whatever they call their fill-in people who cover routes fir vacations, etc are absolutely terrible. Worse, they're irresponsible.

One "sub" delivered a package and rather than place it by the door or on the ground, left it perched on top of the porch railing visible to everyone from the sidewalk & road.

The next "sub" delivered a handgun - yep, a handgun - that required and was clearly marked adult signature required without a signature. Worse, she left it on the sidewalk from the driveway to the porch where anyone walking by could see and take it. Thankfully I was alerted by my security camera and rushed home from work before someone took it.

Called the local post office, the national number, the postal inspectors office, the ATF and the local Action News to report the carrier for illegally delivering a handgun. I did manage to get a copy of the signature confirmation sheet the sub filled out. She wrote "Covid" on it to justify not getting a signature. No one else ever responded. No one.

It is managment NOT the sub. The subs have limited training and are expected to perform on the level of a full time employee. There is a lot more to the job than you realize.

I am sure there is more to the job, but seems like they are not doing it either.
We get 2-3 Amazon deliveries a week for business, it got so bad that we requested Amazon to not use USPS. It took several weeks, but have zero issues with deliveries with fedex and ups.

Yeah. Sure there is. Must be tough to teach someone to walk 20 more feel to put a package on a porch. Or to leave a sticky note if you can't get a required signature. Yep. That's a definite failure by management I'm sure. Roll Eyes

Funny though, apparently someone taught the little mouth-breathing knuckle dragger to write 'Covid" on their deliver scanner when they want to skate out of doing their fucking job. The sooner the USPS is replaced by private companies like UPS, FedEx, etc (shit, even DPS) the better!

I wonder if privatization is legal. The post office, I believe, is authorized by the Constitution. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Then clue me in old wise one. Pretty sure I know laziness when I see it. And that's all this is. Pure, 100%, too lazy to do their job correctly laziness.

Now please, do tell how the poor wittle sub is a victim of poor management. Tell me how it's someone else's fault that they chose to leave a package as they did. I'm really curious to hear your rational explanation. If you're ok with shitty service and making excuses for others then good on you. Is that how academia works these days?

And please don't think that Phd gives you some kind of supernatural insight into the world the rest of us with only graduate degrees don't have. Roll Eyes

I am not taking the bait. Your style of management is just what the USPS has. End of story. Try being nice to your carrier. You know the stuff you should have learned in Kindergarten.

Bingo! There's that know it all PhD attitude we all love about you! There's NOTHING you're not an expert at is there?

Say genius...riddle me this. I've had no, zero, nada, interaction with these idiotic, lazy subs who can't be bothered to carry a package far enough to get it off a walkway. So how I supposed to "be nice" to them. But yes...it must be me not being "nice" to someone I've never seen other than on camera that's the problem. How silly of me! It's so obvious now. Thanks for putting that doctorate to such good use!

I'll just think nice thoughts about them, and I'm sure that the next time they'll not only bring the package and place it lovingly and gently in my hands, but will offer a sincere apology for their poor prior performance and a hearty "good day" as they leave.

You really are completely full of shit. What a cop out, "I'm not gonna take the bait." Theres no bait dumb ass. It's only you not being able to explain how tough it is for someone to walk from here to there and put a box on the ground. To use your words - end of story.

Was this during the Covid bs? During the scam we were explicitly told NOT to get signatures from people during that time- per management. If you saw, or smelled most of the front doors I walk up to, you'd realize Covid is the least of the worries in this regard.
Carriers don't know what's in the package, and it doesn't matter. If your item is irreplaceable or valuable, send it Registered Mail.
I left a parcel for someone up on the arms of their canopy right next to their mailbox the other day, I do it quite often. Keeps both of us from having to bend over.
The person who carried that route that isn't the regular, probably is junior to the regular, which means they're being pushed to go faster than the regular, and are probably doing way more than the regular. All management cares about is speed.
Management is why we don't knock on the door for each and every package. I did this until about 8 years ago, but it was deemed a "Time wasting practice". You know carries up until about 1923 would knock on your door every day to hand you your mail? When the amazon garbage started showing up in mass they told us to just leave it, even at an apartment complex. It's 3rd class mail anyway, junk mail, so we now carry all mail as junk mail.

Everyone complains because they don't get the service like the '50s, then say to privatize it. What do you think happened? When it was a straight up government office, you'd get sent home for not having your shoes shined.

No, it was 2 weeks ago. Had it been during the Covid outbreak I could see a reluctance to get a signature. But this was just laziness, stupidity, or both.

And no, I don't expect service levels like in the 50s (I couldnt tell you what those were like as it was way before my time). But I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a package to make it off the sidewalk or walkway. I don't think it's unreasonable to place a package on the ground where it's not visible to everyone from the street as it is when placed on top of a railing. And I don't think it's unreasonable to get a signature as required or leave the little sticky note on the door.

If all this is too hard to do or if these expectations are poo pooed by "management", then I see them as even more reason to get rid of the USPS and privatize mail delivery. As you say, all they're really good for these days is junk mail delivery anyway.

My Postal delivery guy is awesome! When we let him know we are waiting on a package, he’ll text us if it is or isn’t loaded on his truck in the morning via text. He just covers our neighborhood (approx 400 houses), lives locally and just plain cool guy. He is close to calling it quits, his last kid is done with college in a year and he has enough time to retire. We get notified when he is on vacation and he is grateful for the neighborhood’s appreciation of him.

Now the bad, he has gone through a steady stream of terrible back up delivery people. Our backup drivers believe they’re doing a great job of getting a package into our neighborhood. The final stage of figuring out what house it was left at is up to you. It’s the only reason I joined Facebook, as that is the fastest way to deliver your own packages the last part of its journey. I was forced to join after a 7 round magazine tube for my Benelli M4 package went missing. The package was not very discreet, which had a neighbor trying to guess the contents. Turned out he was a big turkey hunter and avid gun guy thankfully. My Postman is a shooter and has even invited me out to shoot on a family farm close by, which I have yet to do with him. It’s going to be a sad day when he retires for us.

Our delivery is horrific. Our hold-mail request the last 5 times have handled incorrectly. The first time was blamed by the Postmaster because she didn't receive the on-line request, so we had 6 days of mail sitting in our mailbox, and our delivery person at the time called me because she thought is was odd. Since then, it has started too early, ending 5 days too soon and having accumulated mail sitting in our mailbox uncollected (which is what we were trying to avoid), getting neighbors mail repeatedly, getting mail meant for someone whose street address I didn't even recognize, and it goes on and on. It's 6pm here, and I guess our carrier thought Columbus Day (sorry, my Google calendar reads Indigenous Peoples Day) was a two-day holiday. I had to cancel my Wall Street Journal subscription (which is mail delivery at my home) because the USPS couldn't get the newspaper from their distribution station 10 miles away to our PO in time for daily delivery. But sometimes they would deliver 4 newspapers at a time...

I've talked with our worthless Post Master, who says she is understaffed. The last time I talked with her, it was because the sorting person at the PO didn't understand that a hold-mail order form indicated when to start the hold, and a later date when it should end. The Postmaster said she explained it to him. I think it is being understaffed with good employees who give a S***. We never had any problems with a former carrier for 16 years until she hurt her back and stopped carrying.

Thank goodness I have USPS informed delivery so I know what should be delivered every day. What I DON'T like is that the photo they take of the mail makes it possible to often read the top of the document through the envelope.

Today's mail should have included 1 credit card statement, 2 other bills, and 4 junk mailings. It's now 6:18pm, and no mail yet. EDIT: Mail finally received at 6:35pm. Our usual delivery time is 1:30pm-3:45pm.

End of rant.

My Mail.., er, lady, er, fe-mail person is good.
Past carriers would always put letters in the mailbox and then come up the drive to drop a package. She takes it all and puts the letters under the package at the front door.
Perfect.

That's a fireable offence. Falsifying scans. If you really wanted to press it, you can. Not only that, if they signed for a package, and it was a firearm, they were in possession of a firearms while on the clock. And, I neglected to remember, even when we signed the stupid "c-19", we were still to hand it to the recipient. Not haveing people sign for things was so we weren't handing our scanner or pen/notice slip back and forth.
My point overall though, is people should get the same service that there was in the '50s.

Our regular mailman is great. He always says hello to us and our overly friendly Labs, asks my wife if I’m ok if he hasn’t seen me in a while, and brings large packages to our house (we have a big array of mailboxes at the entrance to our subdivision).

Unfortunately his substitute is awful, routinely delivering mail to the wrong mailboxes and not putting the mail in the boxes until late in the afternoon.
