What the hell with this? For the last few years (including pre-Covid), I've seen an increasing number of Independence Day celebrations (including fireworks) happening on days other than July 4.

Ironically, the promoters of such activities usually avoid acknowledging "Independence Day" and instead refer to "4th of July" celebrations... taking place on days other than the 4th of July.

Even the freaking Army can't get it right, as the biggest show around these parts (at Ft. Meade) is taking place this Friday, JUNE 30.

I just don't get it, but it's pathetic if you ask me.

Could be the same reason they celebrated the new millennium in 2000 instead of 2001:

Some are lousy with numbers, others want to sell more beer.

People are more apt to come out to events on a Friday/Saturday night than on a Tuesday night.

Started here on the 20th, fireworks stands opened.
I had enough loud noises in my life, no thanks.
I stay in the house so the sounds and smells don't rob me of sleep.
It is the one night where the sound of tinnitus from earplugs are preferred to the noise of explosions.

Nope. Sorry. I’m sure that’s the rationale, but I reject it.

1) By the same logic, all holidays should be shifted to the nearest weekend.

2) The celebrations are also not all on the 4th around here even when it falls on a Friday or Saturday.

3) Independence Day is a very specific day for a very specific reason. To hell with “but I have to work tomorrow”.

And that’s the way I feel about it.

I live on Fort Meade so it'll just be a Friday around here.

The kids are looking forward to fireworks though!

I live in a small city in SE Michigan and we had our 4th of July fireworks on June 24th. Why? My small city can only afford a small fireworks show (less than half an hour) and there are only so many people/companies that can put on a fireworks show, so the bigger cities get there fireworks on or closer to the 4th of July.

I agree with Rob. Stop re-arranging the calendar, and while we're at it, stop re-arranging the clock twice a year. Just leave it alone. It ain't broke, it doesn't need to be fixed. And while I'm on my soapbox, stay off my lawn and don't ring my doorbell unless you're delivering something that I ordered.

Independence Day has been observed on July 4 since 1777. Literally, since 1777. It's been an official Federal holiday since before WWII.

I have to agree. It’s the 4th or nothing. It’s as bad as having a kids birthday party three weeks later because that’s when the bulk of the family can get together. No thanks.

I saw what you're talking about today, a billboard advertising a fireworks display on Monday, the 3rd..

What does it matter any more?? Nobody cares anymore or remember the real reason that we celebrate these holidays... Need to stay as intended. ................................. drill sgt.

All holidays will occur between June 13th and November 1st.
All of them, Christmas new years all of them, national , religious whatever.

And work weeks are four days on three days off either 8 or ten hour days.

I'm having a bbq at my place for some friends on Saturday due to everyone being available. I don't really care that festivities happen on the exact day. It's what the celebrations are for that is all that concerns me.

We've have a week long celebration where I live. You can't do everything at once for logistics reasons so we have a week to have fun. Last night was the Stadium of Fire fireworks, today a patriotic service, etc. Everything culminates with a parade on the 4th.

The people putting these events on can only do so much and also want to celebrate with their families. I'd just enjoy everything and be thankful people volunteer for you to have a good time.
