Fuck Microsoft. Their administrator system doesn't work, they Authenticator doesn't work, their nearby share doesn't work, their 365 sync doesn't work, their system tries to push everything to the cloud, when I want cloud as back up, and everything local. You can't reach a human support person anymore either. Everything is their shitty AI interface, which understands nothing, including, "GIVE ME A HUMAN".

I would put all of them in a pit, and machine gun the fuckers.

They have been shitty engineers from the beginning of time, and are still shitty engineers.

I have spent over 20 hours this week trying to solve problems that should be easy, simply because Microsoft is so terribly fucked up.

GAAAAHHHHH! I hope they all fall into the sea and drown.

If there is a more fucked up, monopolistic, unresponsive, Vogon-bureaucratic-stupid organization on this planet, I have yet to encounter it. These fuckers are less competent than the US Government, and that is saying something.

I hate these people with an all consuming passion that will undoubtably shorten my life, through sheer frustration.

I hope Bill Gates gets buttfucked by a pine tree.

Big Grin most righteous rant! The last line caught me by surprise. Hahaha!

I know the 2FA Authenticator doesn’t work if the local clock isn’t set correctly.

Is there any way that a Mac could possibly meet your needs?

I have never had a problem reaching a competent person at Apple's support, and those folks actually listen to you rather than just following a script.

They're not the most inexpensive, but stacking the 15% or so discount for an Apple re-furb, and the 10% for Veterans, eases some of bite. OS updates are not as intrusive as Windows updates -- you can defer or decline MacOS updates, and schedule them for convenient times. MacOS is free, so new versions don't have the $$ bite that new releases of Windows have.

If you have an absolute need for a Windows app, you can install a Windows environment in a Virtual Machine on a Mac. I have been doing that for years, running QuickBooks and Medlin Accounting's Payroll module in a Windows Virtual Machine on Mac. Never had a problem with this setup. If you're interested, I can drop by and give you more information, and can help you set it up if that's what you want to do.

You might also consider a Linux box. Mine works great. Boots up in about 10 seconds. Been bulletproof

I agree about Microsoft on many levels.
I switched to Linux Mint years ago and (only use Windows when I have to) rarely looked back.
Even use Linux Mint on my Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10.

I need Microsoft 365 for my business. It's kind of the gold standard for office software, and usually functions fine. It's when you ask a windows box to play with an Android or Apple system that things go badly sideways.

^^^Nobody 'needs' Microsoft 365. You can purchase a license and install MS Office on your computer/hard drive.

First point, software programmers are NOT Engineers, it's unlikely they could even change a tire. Engineers actually make things that work and if they don't work properly they will revise the design until they do work. John Browning is a good example of an Engineer.

Me, I am a rather direct person and prefer to solve problems with my own hands. What I would like is to have Bill Gates locked in a room with me and my bag of antique bronze door knobs.

I've stopped counting.

I need it for my OneNote to sync across three devices. For the same price as Evernote which is a note taking / Info organizer app, I get OneNote along with Microsoft suite with the latest Excel formulas, and 1 TB of cloud storage.

I use the cloud as a third level backup as it's just one continuous sync with my hard drive. But I don't rely on it as I have three other cloud services I use along with three physical drives I use for back ups.

I definitely don't use the 365 "encrypted" volume.

I gave up on them 10 years ago. End of this year will be 10 years. Got tired of Windows updates. I told myself at that time (equally as pissed as Artie), if I have to format another hard drive and reinstall Windoze one more time I am done with this bs. It was an 18 month Dell that had shit the bed. Used to build them and gave up one year and said the hell with this, and bought one. Didn’t matter. Windoze updates killed that thing so I reformatted, reinstalled windows for the last time. Then I gave it to an elderly neighbor. Bought a Mac Mini and have never looked back. I use excel and office in general on the Mac, and Microsoft charges $50 a year for it, smh. Other than MS Office, no MS products allowed in the house.

I have a good friend that was a high level MS support engineer. When he left the company he handled each branch of the Armed forces. He’d call a number, and they’d “patch” him into someone in the field. Could be a base, or a tent in the desert. Used to be a solid support system. But they H1B Visa’d the whole thing out. So off shore or onshore you’re fukt.

Artie, I have a windows machine arriving at work today. Owner asked me to “set it up, since you have Microsoft experience”.

I think if I remember correctly, setup goes okay if you never connect it to the internet.

Your rant makes me nervous for today.

Yes, as a lifelong MS IT guy I agree the Authenticator App is a PIA.
It's their version of 2FA and there for good reason.
Everyone (Google, Apple, whoever) has to do their own thing and if this was more universal it would be nice but alas then that affect competitiveness of business and I do understand that view.
MS, Apple and everyone else wants you to be in tune to them with an account to sync across devices.
It is a good intention but not without frustrations and pitfalls regardless of who you are.
No, not here to have war between platforms so not going to bash anyone, just sympathize with the frustration.
It's all part of the technology and every platform has it.
The best way to combat is either to not use it (sync) or learn their evil ways. Frown
Oh, and if you are new MS user ~ get the PRO version not the Home version and if will make some of the dumbing-down features less such as installation.
Good Luck

Epic rant, ArtieS

Microsoft, Microsoft. How I hate thee, let me count the ways.

In the "news" this morning it seems the thing that calls itself "AT&T" these days is experiencing a major, possibly widespread network outage. In talking with my wife about it I noted "Two of the happiest days in my life, recently, were when I retired and would never again have to deal with a Microsoft product, and the day I cancelled our AT&T landline service so I'd never have to deal with them again, either."

MS-Win10 launched almost exactly two years before I retired. From everything I saw and heard at the time, MS-Win10 made dealing with MS-Win even more miserable than it had been. Told my boss "I ain't dealin' with it. I'm slammed as it is and life's too short. If you want to deploy MS-Win10 here, you'll have to hire somebody else to do it."

Everything I've seen suggests to me MS-Win has only continued to get worse, since then.

Much of the service in our area has been restored. However, many (most?) AT&T customers in the area are not able to reach 911. Eek

Artie, your rant is so spot on.

These pieces of shit make it impossible to install their shitty product without a Microsoft account. All the old loopholes have been closed. The only way around it is to rebuild it. That’s not that important to me. You can’t even get to the login when starting up a new out if the box computer. Completely screwed and unable to use, until you get on the Microsoft train.
