So, my shower is leaking water onto the bathroom floor. I was going to call for repairs because I am not good at stuff and boom, my Suburban throws a check engine light and the thermostat is registering no temperature. So I take it to the dealership and they call me later in the day with all sorts of good news. New thermostat, a leaking exhaust manifold, front and rear struts are toast, I need a new driver side front tire and an alignment. Oh and I already said go ahead on an oil change, tire rotation, and new wipers. Life is pelting me with lemons. I can't wait to find out how much the shower will cost. For reference, 2017 Suburban, 140k miles. Paid off.

At least Summer is almost over.

Man alive do I ever hear you. Both of our cars need brake work, leaking master shower head and our water heater is on its last leg.

Best of luck to you ^^

Ah , they did the old " Multi Point Inspection " thing . Prioritize things and fix only what is necessary. Find an independent shop that won't rape you. It can be done.

I appreciate the wisdom guys but I trust my guy at the dealership. Yeah its more expensive but I can feel confident about the parts and the labor. It gives me peace of mind.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

In my area I wouldn't have a clue where that might be.
The only non-dealer guy I would trust is a guy I know that works at the GM tech center full time and does side jobs. His backlog is sometimes pretty long and most times too long to wait to get your vehicle fixed.

Yep, my house is doing the same to me currently.

Roof leak from an improperly sealed penetration, air duct repairs from shoddy installation, and my guest bathroom fiberglass tub just cracked. Over $2k in home repair expenses in just the last 6 weeks or so.

At least I have home repair savings for times like these.

Get the thermostat, tire and alignment now, the struts and exhaust leak can probably wait.

Thermostats are usually very easy to replace, I'd wager a bunch of that labor is for
pulling one or both headers and doing the struts. I bet those jobs are a bitch on a big old Chevy.

Expensive year for us, too. Replaced two 50 gal water heaters with instant hot, one of the heaters had gone bad. I rarely use our room with a home theater set up, due to a medical issue I was taking advantage of the recliners. We were getting a good rain and when I stood up a puddle had formed right in front of my chair! Leak in the roof, roofer showed to patch and inspected roof, $2300 estimate to do some repair/preventative work. What's next?
