You know, like they play a Tucker Carlson video or Joe Rogan video and get away with it by interjecting their own commentary every couple of seconds. A clip of Tucker that's 2 minutes takes 15 minutes to watch because some idiot has to come on every 3 minutes to explain what Tucker meant.

These go to eleven.

After getting fooled a couple of times I've stopped watching anything that looks like it is that format.

Yes, it is rampant. What is even worse is when the voiceover is a robot.

This is why I don't want "reaction" videos posted in this forum. It's theft of content for clicks and money.

Money for nothing, and the clicks for free.

Yeah... Their commentary is so distracting that you can hardly even pay attention to the sci-fi B movies!

I loved that show! What was the name? Something like Mystery Science Fiction Theatre 3000? Can't remember exactly.

And just to make a link with the AI-AI-AI thread:
How about all the personal information and intellectual property "scraped up" by the "large language models" of AI?
Where are the lawsuits?

With sports stuff it’s the same. “First Take” on ESPN (which I don’t subscribe to because ESPN is Disney owned) or any sports commentary show that fills the morning slots on all the sports networks where ex-players along with journalists discuss this and that with sports…

Now you have You Tubers who cut/paste these TV network shows. Meaning, they start their video with “let’s take a listen to what Steven A. Smith had to say on X then we’ll come back and I’ll give you my thoughts.” So you’re doing your “take” on another person’s “take” then other people do the take take take. It’s just stupid. Content creation is the Wild Wild West right now and 99% of it is shit.

I asked a YouTuber why he never used popular music behind any of his vids.
(Like other people do)

He wrote that he is in it for the money,
Without the money coming in ,
He would never take the time, money and effort to produce vids.

He claims there is an algorithm that people use to find out who is using their songs and when the legal owner of the music finds those " stealing"
Their music for monetary compensation.

They will bill the YouTuber for the music's use.

Until he hits 150,000 subscribers for X amount of months,
He won't even consider using Long Cool Women by the Hollies.

I’m not a fan either. And what’s even worse are the reaction videos to reaction videos to “stolen” content. The fuck?!?!

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Legal under copyright laws because it's a "review" or some such similar thing. It IS however bullshit. There's people with millions of followers, making obscene amounts of money, just sitting there making faces, watching someone else's video. They get millions of views and the original contented creator gets a few thousand. I wish Youtube wouldn't allow, but they're making huge amounts of add revenue off these same channels, so they're certainly not going to stop it. Just the opposite, they push these channels hard.

Sigforum turned me on to the Fat Electrician YouTube channel. I like they way he presents military history and military occupation specialties.

There is at least a dozen "reaction" channels that react to Fat Electrician videos. Some of the Fat Electrician videos with a million views, the "reaction" channels are getting 150k views to laugh and repeatedly say "I didn't know that" or "that can't be true." Confused

Some of those have got to be spam bot responses. I have seen videos where they're so awful you say to yourself, "there's no way this video has this many likes and comments."

There are a few but the cartel that is "big tech" will probably get away with it and they'll get to do whatever they want with content they didn't create.

Now I'm reading that "AI" is being trained on "AI" generated "content." I'll be bullshit all the way down.

Before electronics the same thing occurred with books. Or papers. People read the works of others. Then they offered opinion or insight. If they were honest they used footnotes and references.

It’s not YouTube. It’s the human heart.
