Chocolate Milk
When did a half gallon become 1.74 litres ? I never noticed till this AM that a half gallon no longer exists, the carton looks the same. So when I go to the store to pick up my choco. milk do I have to say I am going to pick up 59 oz of milk ? Or, hey neighbor, can I borrow 1.74 litres of milk? Did the cows get smaller ? And who came up with 1.74 ?
This metric fad has to stop!!

That is all

Just a way to mask the cutting down of the size of the package and charge for the old amount.

I just realized two days ago that the 'quart' jar that Duke's Mayonnaise comes in is actually 30 ounces.

Wait, what?

Duke’s prided themselves for years as being “Still 32 Oz” when everyone else shrinkflated to 28-30 Oz

I read Blume's post and thought, "he's wrong." Then I went to the refrigerator and looked at the jar that I just used for my sandwich and the damn thing is 30 ounces. When did that happen?

The jar of Duke's in my fridge is 32 oz. I did buy it several months ago and just now opened it last week, so maybe the "current shipments" are the reduced sizes. Will check when I go to Kroger tomorrow...

Duke's has been in 32 oz. jars for as long as I can remember. Until now. The current product is definitely 30 ounces:

Decades ago a brewery I think in Pittsburgh started putting 11 ounces of beer in their bottles. They got shellacked, didn't take long to go back to 12 oz. They must really think we're stupid.

erj -- I think that you missed the point of the "Bad Mayonnaise" reference. It's a piece of SIGforum trivia.

Shrinkflation aside, metric measurements DO make more sense. Everything is done in 10's/100's/1000's. It's getting used to the scale of things that's hard when you grew up with Imperial measurements like we all did.

Half gallon is ~1.89 liters, so shrinkflation factor in going to 1.74 liters is about 8%.

Somehow, I doubt the price was reduced by 8%....

I'm pretty sure with Dukes they reduced the amount and raised the price at the same time.

Looks like they're following the orange juice pattern. First step was to reduce from half gallon (64 ounces) to 59 ounces (1.74L), followed by a further reduction to 52 ounces, so a total product shrinkage of 18.75%, accompanied by a significant increase in the price of the container of juice. Mad

Didn't one of the guys get really sick or even die from that incident?

IIRC, it was a band.

For extra credit, which high profile SIGforum member was part of that band?
