I just asked Bings AI search what size Daffodil bulbs to look for (larger cost more naturally) so I could expect them to bloom in the first year.

The answer I got was...

The average size of a banana is about 7.87 inches.

In Bings defense, both bananas and daffodils are usually yellow, so there's that...

AI is garbage. Introduce this stuff when it works. I have to deal with it in my business and it is certainly not ready for prime time.

You have to be smarter than AI to use it properly. Think of it as an intern eager to please you but not like Monica Lewinsky eager.

When you give it a problem to solve, it's all in how you define the problem. And even then, you need to be smart enough to be able to check the work / result.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I've been using it for language study via an app called Langotalk. I'm trying to learn to speak Italian well enough to get around when traveling to Italy. I find it very helpful to chat with an AI bot in Italian without the stress or expense of hiring an actual human tutor.

I've never used it but a recent tutorial said don't use it for something you'd ask Google. You could search google with something like "how to get daffodil bulb to bloom the first year", or even Youtube that kind of query.

The other admonition in that tutorial was beware AI does not ensure factual truth. The example was "write a biography of xxxxxxx" who was an ancestor of the woman doing the tutorial. chatGPT simply invented a biography.

Me:

What are the best size daffodil bulbs to buy to get blooms in the first season?

GPT:

When it comes to getting blooms in the first season, choosing larger daffodil bulbs is generally recommended. Larger bulbs have more stored energy and nutrients, which can lead to stronger and quicker growth. Here are some guidelines for selecting daffodil bulbs to ensure blooms in the first season:

Size: Choose bulbs that are at least 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 6 centimeters) in diameter. Larger bulbs are more likely to produce flowers in the first season.

Quality: Look for firm, plump bulbs without any signs of mold, rot, or damage. The outer layer should be dry and papery.

Variety: Some daffodil varieties are known for earlier bloom times. If getting blooms in the first season is a priority, consider early-flowering varieties.

Planting Time: Plant the bulbs at the appropriate time for your region. In general, daffodils are planted in the fall, several weeks before the ground freezes. This allows the bulbs to establish roots before winter and encourages early spring blooming.

Planting Depth: Follow recommended planting depth guidelines for the specific daffodil variety. Planting too shallow or too deep can affect the timing and quality of blooms.

It's important to note that while larger bulbs increase the likelihood of blooms in the first season, individual results can vary based on growing conditions, climate, and other factors. Additionally, some varieties may naturalize and improve their performance in subsequent years, providing even more spectacular displays in the seasons to come.
