It's not being overused. You're just imagining it.

Yeah it does seem to be the trendy word of the last year or so. If I never heard the word again, I wouldn't miss it.

I’m not a Scrooge yet, but I dislike terms like these because I don’t bother to learn their meaning and next thing you know it’s 2 years later and I still don’t know what they mean.

I only learned what gaslighting meant in the past year.

It's a trendy tactic now often resorted to by some used-to-be-trustworthy 'news' sources, so of course the term for the tactic pops up more frequently. Recent example: "Kamala was never the border czar, only nuts think that."

It's not the term that's overused, it's the tactic itself- denying something happened and then accusing the person remembering the inconvenient fact of lying - that's overused. Wink

I'm hearing a lot more of the "Narcissist" word used lately, especially by women pissed off at their boyfriend/husband just to get some revenge.

It's pathetic.

I am reminded of a line from a great cinematic masterpiece:

I don't care for the way the term is used, and yes, they mean lying. The movie was great, and shows how the term means so much more than the way it's used today.

To quote the great philosopher Montoya, "I do not think it means what you think it means."

Another term I can't stand is 'ghosting'.

Yep. They do not know the origin of the term.
Narcissus was so love with himself that he fell into the water and drowned while admiring his looks. It seems that lay people misuse psychological terms with regularity.

It is a great movie set in a time where street lamps with lit with gas. The protaganist tries to make the female think she is insane. TCM has the film on from time to time. LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...atoesClassicTrailers

Can I add "nothing burger" to the impending growing list?

It was cute when Shannon Bream started it some years ago, but just stop it already.

And acronyms. In the name of all things holy, can we stop with the damned acronyms? Please?

I have no problem with TLAs*, as long as they are defined the first time that they are used in a thread.

How about five letter acronyms? Like, LGBTQ? I'd love to see that one go away.
