So we got an e-mail at work encouraging us all to use preferred pronouns in the signature lines of our e-mails.

Dude, Bro and Brah were not what they were expecting.

I wouldn't repond to this nonsense, nor would I follow their "encouragement".

The thing that gets me is that 99 or more percent of people know this is all nothing but pure bullshit, but so many go along with it.

The only time I've run into this lately is when I went to a job fair at the local university.

They had adhesive nametag stickers (similar to the old "Hello, my name is:" type) where students attending the job fair could write their name and their preferred pronouns.

Funnily enough, I don't recall speaking with any students whose preferred pronouns different from the apparent biological sex, thus rendering the whole exercise pointless. But I'm sure it made someone, somewhere, feel good about themselves.

Not too many years ago, I worked with a woman named Ronnie (short for Veronica). She was in her 50s and too old to be bothered with all of this woke bullshit, but folks who didn't know her and only ever corresponded with her via email would often refer to her in the masculine. It didn't bother her. She didn't feel micro-aggressed, or even aggressed. She never added pronouns to her email.

My solution is just to call everyone "asshole", since it is standard equipment for all sexes. JHMO, YMMV.
