I hate it. I hate the top touch area for scrolling, FF/RW, select. And miss the ability to change FF speed. Apple TV is mostly okay. But hate the remote. That’s all. The silver one is awful. The older white one was ok. Not sure how the current black one is.

The iPhone Remote app works well, but it's a hassle to navigate to it, then back to the app I was using (I use my iPhone a lot). It would be nice to pick up a dedicated remote and have it work right.

Not a fan of that remote. Even a universal one like the Harmony is not the smoothest on that system.

I like the voice function... Simply push and say “fast forward three minutes”, voila, no commercials. You can also push left or right for 15 second jumps. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! Don't ever drop the damn thing, either. A replacement is almost 1/2 the cost of a whole new Apple TV. And the remote is the brains of the system. You have to go through the whole process of setting it up new, including pairing and entering your Apple ID and password (which in my case is 32 alpha/numeric/special characters, on that hunt and peck keyboard). Harmony home remote controls my TV, Amp and Apple TV along with 4 sets of Smartthings lights. Great device. *shrug* Guess I'm the odd man out. I like the Apple TV remote. Works a lot like a laptop computer touch pad or the touch screen on a smart phone.
Are they fragile? Doesn't feel fragile. Haven't read anywhere that they're particularly fragile.
How is the remote the "brains of the system" when, when using an alternate remote, the ATV remote spends most of its time sleeping--and not even connected to the ATV?
To pair a (new) remote with an ATV? Hardly. With the ATV running you simply point the new/replacement remote at the ATV from about three inches away and press Menu and Volume Up for about five seconds. "America is at that awkward stage. Real world experience. Mine fell from an end table to a tile floor. Fractured the glass "touch" area and no longer worked. I noticed the replacement's touch area is no longer glass.
I wish I'd known that shortcut when I set up my new remote. BTW, I do like the ATV remote over others. When in doubt, mumble

I've had mine now for over 6mos and found that if Apple could improve the remote, my ideal remote would have a mute button also, instead of either halting the video or using the volume up/down button. Thats just a minor thing though. I still enjoy the over all performance of the Apple TV. Also, most times I FF, I've found it easier to just hit the stop/pause button and scroll left or right with a finger using the touch pad. You can also see the video advancing frame by frame on the smaller screen that pop's up on the bottom of the TV screen when you hit the stop/pause button. It seems to be more efficient than using the FF or Rewind function on the touch pad. Initially I found myself dropping the remote on more than a few occasions, though I was glad that it survived the falls, I made a home-made lanyard to attach it to, and often just hang it around my neck. It's also easier to find should I doze off watching. Regards, Will G.
