What the hell is wrong with people that rate good content / shows with bad numbers just because subtitles are not available in their frickin language? Judge the content. Or not. But to rate something poorly just because they don't offer subtitles in your idiot language is beyond moronic. Subscription services should just kick these people off the service. If you want to watch shows in a different language and subtitles aren't offered, maybe learn the frickin language a bit - probably don't need much to understand a TV show or movie. I'm old and testy. I have little patience for these morons these days. If you rate Casablanca (or whatever) 1 star because you think the story or production or whatever sucks, fine. If you rate Casablanca 1 star because there are no spanish or hindi subtitles, get off my planet. (language examples not random - most 1 star reviews are from those seeking spanish or hindi subtitles - title after title after title). ETA: I thought it was implicit but just to clarify and make explicit: I'm talking about, from an American / English person's perspective, foreign shows that have subtitles in English (and generally several other languages) just not the ones a particular rater would like. So, for example, a Korean show that has English subtitles but not in spanish or hindi. People who want spanish or hindi rate the content as 1 star in that absence. It's stupid to rate the content based on the absence of some preferred subtitle language. There is no obligation for the content providers to do so, as far as I know. If the content provider wants to pay for and provide subtitles in hindi fine. If they don't, fine. This message has been edited. I honestly don't pay attention to ratings until maybe after the fact. It's not that I go against the current; I just know I have different tastes than the majority. I look at the title. If it grabs me, I look at the summary. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I get a lot of my ratings, for newer content at least, directly from here. Most times, SF user ratings aren't far off from my impressions of a movie/show. The Enemy's gate is down.

My idiot language is English. How ever it is written not spoken, as I am deaf. With tech today no excuse not to have subtitles in English as well as several others and I will rate low if the fucking providers won't place it in English SDH for the deaf. Not everybody can hear so pull your head out of your ass and think about it one second.

I am not totally deaf, but pretty close. Many of the youtube thingys that are posted here by SIGforum members do not have the CC feature enabled. I don't watch those. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Yeah, Legally deaf with hearing aids after 25 year of sirens. Even with hearing aids I hear the TV, but can not understand it for some reason. And I do get aggravated at content that's not live broadcast not having subtitles or captions. In this great tech age there is no excuse for it hence the reason I down grade them as well as alerting other deaf/hard of hearing folks to not bother with trying to watch.

This is much like people knocking stars off of ratings for Amazon product because they didn't get it in two days. Fine, I know you are butt hurt because you were inconvenienced, but does that mean the product isn't any good? Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet. - Dave Barry "Never go through life saying 'I should have'..." - quote from the 9/11 Boatlift Story (thanks, sdy for posting it)

You have two options, 1) open the video by clicking the black bar that says "watch on youtube" then click CC, or 2) when you click play on the embedded video you should see CC at the bottom briefly with all the controls for the video. Hover your mouse over the video while it's playing and click the CC button at the bottom and bobs your uncle...

Exactly. Or that the wrong product was shipped. Basically, providing feedback completely irrelevant to the product per se. It's like me judging my neighbor by the color of his rose garden, not by his character. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." I do know how to display the captions when that option is enabled. I'm bitching about many videos in which the CC option is not available, i.e. the CC button is grayed out. Or maybe CC is enabled, but the captions are not in English nor any other language that I can read and understand. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

From a Spanish speaking person’s perspective, it doesn’t surprise me. But I’ve seen “Americans” complain for pretty much the same reasons, not specifically when it comes to subtitles or rating. My personal opinion is that i pretty much stay clear of the first group when it comes to travel, holidays, etc., not enjoying their company or basic attitude. Want to watch a foreign movie? Well, guess what, it”s likely to sound foreign, and be aware that you”ll lose some/much if you don”t speak not only the language but particularly the lingo too. Tough luck! Be it visual media or literature, the perfect translation does not exist. Period. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

The CC on the local news is machine generated and lacks much accuracy. Uses phonics and spells phonetically. Surely this can be improved. We have the technology to do all kinds of stupid stuff but not nearly enough for those who are visually impaired or hearing impaired.

I don’t think I’ve ever considered random peoples opinion/ratings when watching a show or movie. Or cared about their opinion in the first place. Neither should you.

One of our TVs displays the CC on a big black bar that often obscures a big part of the screen. Irritating. As to the OP’s question, If a foreign Language film has english subtitles, I may watch and enjoy it. But if it has none and is not dubbed in english so that I can follow the plot, I see no reason to watch something that is unintelligible to me. Following a plot using visuals alone doesn’t work for me. I have limited foreign language skills.
