Did everyone forget basic manners?
I would have called that woman the C-word to her face and then proceeded to follow it up with a combination of profanity that would make a sailor blush.

I heartily agree with your other examples but this is beyond the pale. WTF are you doing reaching your hand into my bag and using my property? Is it okay for me to stick my hand in your pocket, grab whatever I feel, and squeezed the living shit out of it???

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Word.

It shocks me to see how rude people are today. Thoughtless, I might be able to understand, but just plain rude, entitled and pushy?

It’s not just younger folks, either. I’m seeing grown men act like babies when they don’t get their way…and to see the people that agree with them and go along with it blows my mind.

No one wants to follow any rules any longer. They just want to do what “feels right” and fuck the rest of us. Makes me want to break a few rules myself.

I think it was when the dufus reached in my bag for my binoculars. I was out on deck getting a couple shots in and came back to find him looking out the window with my binoculars.

Me: Gently put them down on the table because they sure as hell aren't yours!

Dufus: You weren't using them.

Me: You're lucky I'm a trauma nurse and know how to apply a tourniquet to a severed limb. If you don't want to see a demonstration, I'd suggest you stay away from me and my gear for the remainder of the cruise.

I was going to Florida and the plane stopped in Trenton. It was short stop. Passengers got off, new ones came in. The the uproar began. They started demanding people change seats. “ My travel agent said we could sit together..” no doubt they tried the same line at check-in. No lady, I’m not moving. The pilot came on and told people to sit down. Otherwise we’d miss our push off and place for take off. We missed two before there was some quiet.
Hey, buy the ticket at the last minute, you don’t get a lot of choices for seating.

To say people forgot basic manners implies they had them to begin with.

I am very happy that I was not on the "rude" cruise. It is inconcievable to me that I would touch something that belongs to someone else. That really goes beyond manners...

I also understand that people potentially could be forced to travel last minute but I CANNOT understand insisting that someone else change seats.

I book my flights early and choose my seats carefully; sometimes I pay a premium for the seats I want. Even when asked politely I will rarely change my seat with someone else. I explain patiently that no, I do not wish to change my aisle seat for that middle seat because I am claustrophobic and cannot sit in the middle or by the window. That usually ends any discussion.

I tend to avoid anything at all that involves being around fellow human beings these days and it is because of the type of things experienced by the OP. More and more people have no consideration, no class, no manners and no grace.

Sod'em.

If people want to be disrespectful toward me, they can pound a rusty razor wire cactus up their bum. I just ignore them.

People were a lot more polite when it was far more likely they would get punched in the face for being assholes.

When I used to travel in sketchy countries/locales, I noticed that:
1. People who were dirt poor by First World standards were often exceedingly polite to each other, and to me. Courtesy and manners are free, and when the person in the next seat is as broke as you, intangible "possessions" like respect and dignity matter.
2. When the seatmate you're impolite to might turn out to be the local Sendero commander, "impolite" or "polite" could get (or save) you way more than a beatdown at the next roadblock.

I found both to be oddly comforting. Not a lot of complexity, not difficult to wrap your head around. Basic manners prevented a lot of problems.

Some people need somebody to show up at their door once a month and either kick them in the balls or punch them in the nose.

One observation about basic manners I've always marveled at is today's cowboy culture. They sit down at the table in restaurants with their big hats on. If I tried that growing up it would have taken my mother all but two seconds to slap it off my head.

Excellent observation on point 1.

Well, on the other hand. I took my riding mower down a half mile of highway to mow the neighbor's driveway. He's bedridden, she's recovering from breast cancer. The driveway's about 300 yards and gets clogged with weeds.

On the way home, a front tire burned out the bearings and fell off. My wife brought the pickup, the ramps, and the come along. In the 15 minutes it took to load the thing, two people stopped to help.

It's a thing in Wyoming.

I’m convinced it’s the lack of manners/courtesy that leads to a loss of civility, which in turn leads to criminal behavior.
And unfortunately we’re becoming habituated into accepting it as normal.

We were at church yesterday and several men had baseball hats on and two with stetsons….

I would never wear my hat indoors. The military taught me better. And my mother would have brained me before that.
