My little grocery store stopped carrying them about six months ago. No biggie as the next closest store down the road a piece still had them...until they didn't.
I went to six different grocery stores in three different towns today. Nobody had the damn things! WTF?
I need to make my favorite dish, dammit!

Out of curiosity I searched and didn’t find any issues. Are you looking for fresh? If so, it may be past the season. I see frozen availability from my local Walmart. Frozen, but wild caught and no additives.

He's in Montana. None of them weren't going to be frozen!

We have well known Peconic Bay Scallops in our waters, and the season is open from Nov-Feb or so. The last few years have seen very disappointing harvests and the numbers are way down. Even buying them fresh locally during the season is a challenge, and quite expensive too.

I just checked Walmart. They only list frozen sea scallops. Bay scallops are in a league of their own for several reasons.

No Aldi around here and I'm hesitant to order frozen items online. Sometimes they'll arrive frozen and sometimes it takes things a week to get here.

You should educate yourself on fake scallops.
It is unfortunately more common than most people realize.
Cheers~

In that Walmart package of scallops, I wonder how much of the 1 pound bag is water and how much is actually scallops?

Over 80% because they are labeled as water added. The other, probably more concerning, problem is they are Chinese farm raised.

Or they are not real scallops…

So who’s going to tell him that they don’t grow scallops in Montana? ;-)

I was told years ago that most common "scallops" sold in restaurants and stores was actually shark meat.
In fact, some sharks are the source for several seafood offerings. Apparently, the meat of the fins has a different texture and taste than meat from the body.

These are the ones typically sold around here. Real scallops. Not fake.
