Yup, moose tracks in the front yard, someone had a midnight snack. It's not like there's a whole entire flipping forest behind the house that you think would be a never ending buffet more tempting than a Dunkin' Donuts would be to a pre Jenny Craig Kyrstie Alley, no Bullwinkle's gotta' decimate my front yard. So bite me Bullwinkle, I'm going to go find Boris and Natasha and offer a bounty on your rack.

When I first saw one, They are huge!, Aspen must be tasty, or he did he do it just to piss you off . You shouldn't be feeding the wild life there? might be some rule against it .

Sorry to hear about your trees though, still beautiful country that I would like to visit someday.

Back in the 1970"s When stationed in Alaska can Remember seeing "Moose Nugget Jewlery" ( dried moose droppings that were sealed with like a varnish coating then other things added to make it look like jewelery earrings /etc) in the stores and gift shops that were frequented by tourist that did not know better........... I'm sure they are a lot more annoying when you have to live with them year round. But they are definitely impressive creatures, and very cute when they're little.

We love our moose here. At least 3 different animals, maybe 4 that I have seen in our yard. They've pruned the aspen trees, so no branches below 8 feet from the ground. We're letting the aspen sprouts come up to make more of a forest. Many of those will get stripped, with some surviving to be mature trees.

We watched our neighbor's newly planted 6 ft aspens get stripped by a momma and yearling. They just wrapped those huge lips around the branches and vacuumed all the leaves off.

I guess the moral of the story is to not plant young aspens.

I had moose cages around my hardwood trees when I lived in Anchorage. They looked horrible, but I lost zero trees to moose.


Still hated the dumb bastards though:

They would cross a freeway and make it to safety, but would get spooked then make a 180 to run into danger. As an example, one summer I had five 5-gallon pails of asphalt sealant in my truckbed, and made it to my exit. A moose was just heading into the woods by the freeway, and the dumb bastard made a 180 to run back onto the exit and highway. I had to lock up my brakes, and the the asphalt sealant went flying. I can't believe zero pails spilled and zero pails went through my rear window.

Unlike deer, moose eyes don't reflect headlights so you're right on top of them by the time you see them at night.

~300 lived in Anchorage in summer, but ~3000 lived in Anchorage during the winter. One of their primary winter food sources was unburying landscaping by front of houses/businesses and eating it. You had to be careful when you walked out the front door as they were prone to attacking people.
