Our grandkids have outgrown high chairs, car seats, and childproof gates. Those things along with some folding chairs, I took to Salvation Army; Goodwill had already turned me down.
These items are practically new, since they were at Grandma's house and didn't get used much at all.
But because of liability concerns, SA wouldn't take anything, except for some plastic drawers.
Wouldn't take folding chairs because they don't have more room for furniture.

I guess I'll try listing the kid stuff on OfferUp--safer than Craigslist.

Or, you could leave them out at the cub, with the trash, doc. I do this, when there are things no longer needed and to be tossed. They always disappeared before sundown. There are always folks who can use them.

Our trash day is Friday morning. Thursday evening
the pickup trucks cruise the neighborhood. A couple of times I had some large stuff out. I went out and helped him put it in his truck. Smile

Yep, most won't take any baby products.

We were getting rid of some old toys, that were mini versions of baby items. high chairs & cribs for dolls. GW almost wouldn't take them until I told them they were toys, not actual furniture.

Some SA and GW stores are like crack addicts - looking for a quick score. In other words, something they can flip quickly for the $$.

Not all of them are like that, but in my area, I have noticed this "pickiness" about donations lately.

I currently give my stuff (mainly clothes) to a local center that benefits battered women; they seem genuinely happy to get things.

A lot of Churches run their versions of SA. You could try one of those

Not advocating for facebook (I'm NOT on there, refuse to be on there, won't even click on a link if sent to me, EVER!) but...If you are on there, they have 'Buy Nothing' community groups where these items can be exchanged/donated.

Regarding Child Car Seats, often times there are collection drives organized to accept OLD Car Seats (apparently they have an expiration date!). In my area they do this semi-regularly, usually around the time retailers are accepting old car seats in exchange for either a new one, or SIGNIFICANT discount on a new one. Just something to look into... Wink

This has been their policy for a long time . I donate things like that to the Methodist Church near me . They have a thrift store a couple of days a month.

We tried to give several organizations nice, used furniture.

Since they had to come up 3 steps, they wouldn't take it.

Okay, I thought maybe it was area specific but, now, I think maybe it's a liability issue. They don't want to sell baby stuff that ends up harming a baby and be exposed to a lawsuit. I remember tv segments of dangerous cribs or maybe obsolete car seats.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Similar around here. Our trash pick up day is Tuesday. On Monday night, folks will cruise our neighborhood scoping for bargains.

^^ yup ^^ Anything we put out on the curb for "heavy trash" day hardly ever is still there by the time the truck gets there.

There's a APP called "Nextdoor" where you could advertise those items locally. My wife has used it to get rid of some of our excess. Never took more than a day. One downside is that apparently many
member just use it to vent.

I've run into that as well. Seems GW locally only wants clothing in excellent condition and books they can job off thru a used bookseller. I give most of my stuff to a women's shelter or a local church now.

My brother took a 3-piece suit to SA - they won't sell it as-is. They threw each part of the suit in a different bin.

He won't take anything like that there again - he'll find one of the groups helping people get back on the career path.

There are a lot of thrift shops everywhere that takes donations so do a google search of thrift shops near me and see what pops up in your area. The salvation army and goodwill aren't really the best places to donate stuff anyway.
