If they wanted compiled computer answers, instead of real people's opinions and experiences, they just ask AI themselves.

This is exactly what Grok says to the question:

Sure, let’s ditch the robotic copy-paste vibe. What’s on your mind—fire away with a real question, and I’ll keep it fresh and straight from the hip.

Yes! When I ask a question, the people here may not be visible to me, but they are real people, with real life experiences. Don't give me a "just Google it", or "please do a search of previous threads", or the subject of this thread, a copy & paste of Grok, Copilot or whatever. If I wanted to do that, I would have, and often do.

I asked Grok a question the other day…

..it sent back a picture of a bunny with a pancake on its head.

Agreed 100%.

The value of this forum lies in the life experience of its membership. That's why I ask questions here...not because I'm looking for a computer-generated response.

Response from GEMINI to the subject:

Absolutely. I understand your frustration with generic, copied responses.
As an AI, I'm designed to generate original, helpful, and contextually relevant answers based on the vast information I've been trained on and the search capabilities I have. My goal is to provide a unique response that directly addresses your specific question and needs, not just to repeat pre-written text.
You can expect:
Original Content: Responses generated in real-time for your query.
Context Awareness: Answers that build on our previous conversation.
Directness and Clarity: Clear, structured, and non-repetitive information.
How can I help you with your next question?

I respect the real life experiences of our members, and value them. Over the past three months, I have seen how reputable AI responses to my inquiries offer a breadth and depth that no one human having one relatable experience can offer. What I value here, on this forum, is the original thoughts and values of the members, their emotions, their passions, and their pain. But, I think there is value to offering the curated information from an AI source alongside the SF insights. There is no reason to discredit the AI, simply because it is AI. I remain amazed at its ability to create personally-relevant answers with a short Q&A session.

Yes, please.

They are not original sources, at best (and that, only sporadically) a concoction based on an algorithm's take of the original sources. At worst? GIGO, but with masterful presentation, appearing authorititve.

As to the algorithm itself, or the original sources fed into it being good? Not being privy to any of that, the answer is unknowable and thus, the results not dispositive.

In my experience, 30% of what AI responds with is Factually Untrue, and more than 50% of it, I already knew! Just stop it! Roll Eyes

I nominate this thread be pinned as a 'Sticky' atop all sub-forums on SIGforum. Thank you! Wink

If I post an AI response, it's usually because I'm genuinely interested in the answer myself. Why not post it at that point?

I also seldom just do a mindless copy-and-paste. I take the time to curate the AI answer and remove extraneous information, and even edit to put things more in my words.

That all said, I do agree this can quickly get out of hand.

Most of the search engines are useless now. They prioritize sales and MSM that push leftist narratives.

If I ask for a review of product A vs. product B, I get pages and pages of places to buy them but no reviews. Then the review pages are all obviously AI based because they get many things wrong.

Looking for any political info that supports conservative positions is almost impossible. Hit after hit of MSM crap.

I am reluctantly uses Chat GPT now for various things. The search engines prioritize paid placement and ad revenue over usability and as a result AI will put many of them out of business.

I’ve been thinking about this thread, and have settled on wondering why we don’t want questions answered however they can be. That’s the purpose of asking a question: to get an answer—no?

I definitely dislike the “Google it yourself” comments because that’s not always the best source of information and of course is totally unresponsive. But the few times I’ve posted something I got through an Internet search myself I’ve made the source clear so that understanding can be part of how it’s evaluated. Beyond that, what does it matter where a good answer comes from? I’ve been using the Copilot AI a lot because it answers questions much the way a human would, with explanations if appropriate.

As anyone who uses an AI source should know, though, they’re hardly infallible, and not only is it necessary to confirm any important information, there are plenty of warnings about the danger of brain rot due to not thinking for ourselves when possible.

And if we’re looking for something to complain about—as I will now—far worse than just pasting something from the ’net are all the irrelevant, not to mention nonsensical posts that commonly show up in threads, no matter the topic or how serious.
