Weather warnings
Whether it is snowmageddon, high winds, tsunamis, fake "real feel" temperatures, reporting wind chills instead of actual temperatures just to scare people, or anything else weather related, JUST STOP IT!!!!

Today we have flash flood warnings in my area. Yeah, a flash flood. I'd venture to say that we've never, ever, had a flash flood here, yet since we're supposed to get a little rain this evening (and no doubt because Texas got a lot of free publicity and a lot of clicks with their's) we have a flash flood warning and it was all the talk around town today. Roll Eyes

Good Lord I'm sick of this crap of ginning up hysteria for a few clicks on a fucking website. I'm sick of it I say! Mad

We had another thread on this topic awhile back and I agree. The system is used and abused.

https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...935/m/1190023515/p/1

Sadly for me when or if the weather really does turn to shit myself and others will be so used to it being over used that it will be ignored when needed.
I am just an hour or so north of the recent flooding and my phone alerts were and are silenced because of the constant overuse and abuse of the warning system.

The OP would hate living in a major metropolitan area that has local TV stations for ABC, Fox, CBS, NBC, and smaller cable networks who are competing to put butts in front of televisions. In addition to the OP's list, they've added RealFeel Shade, Indoor humidity, air quality, allergy forecast, etc. If you're imagining normal allergies (grass pollen, ragweed, tree pollen, mold) then you don't have a future in weather news as you failed to imagine the assclownery of forecasting migraines (there are thousands of triggers not weather/climate related) and arthritis.

I consider myself lucky. During Hurricane Harvey where Houston had the massive flooding from 51" of rain, 2 unknown meteorologists became popular for hype free weather forecast. I've followed them ever since, and get their 5x or 6x per week hype free weather forecast off FB and they've since added an app. Yes, you read that correct in that it's hype free and only 5x or 6x per week and not 4x per day (unless there is an actual rare event happening). Do you really want to be shocked? When their forecast is wrong, they admit it in the post for the next day's weather. Their Houston weather is called Space City Weather. Nationally, they do track major storms on The Eyewall and it's hype free as well.

A few days ago I was getting ready to go out, putting on my insulated coveralls, parka, and my Uncle Buck hat, the weatherman said it was very hot today. told me to dress in light clothes. Whew!! He saved my life!

Our local CBS station provides us with a WEATTTTHHHHHER IMPAAAATCT STATEMMMMMENT. Mostly wrong.

This is an example of local weather reporting getting it really wrong: Honey, that ain't WARM, that's HOT!

I’m pretty pissed this week over this. I have very close friends in Maui. I didn’t know about the Tsunami warning until 11:55pm my time, which puts them at 6:55pm. I’m instantly on the maps and I see the Tsunami havoc but it’s out at sea a fair bit and it was West of Big Island, and had cleared it. Moving North level with Maui but still, it was out a ways. I’m not a meteorologist by any means but it sure looked like it was well clear of the State. I frantically text my people, each one, and ask. My closest friend there, he’s up country. Debating sleeping in his car at the skate park because they have bathrooms, etc. He ended up staying in some wealthy person’s home up country (towards Haleakala) that took some of them in. Maui County had sounded the sirens and all the bullshit close to 5pm. Then an absolute nothing burger. Where he is at in Kihei, jack shit. Harbor had some boomy waves that wouldn’t even be a big deal in the winter, when I go, when all the winter swells come in. Fucking joke. I was real worried then when I figured everything out I was real fucking pissed. I worry about my people and this was epic failure. 4 hour traffic jams, just chaos all over the island. Everyone trying to get to elevation. You could have stayed at the apartment dude. Fucking lame ass weather people. You need to do better.

Yeah, I used to get those.

The goofy bastards at the National Weather Service sent an alert at 7:00am in the morning (on my only day off that week) saying 'heavy rains expected today'.

It didn't rain for another 14 hours and that wasn't doing much else other than moving grains of sand around and leaving circles.

I turned 'em off after that.

Just remember that"" Weathermen do it with cracked crystal balls""... Not a exact science.... They take all of the existing conditions and then look at the possible combinations that might happen and then make a educated guess as to what could happen.... If they were to say that this IS what IS going to happen and something else happens then they would never be trusted for any of their predictions ever...... As is they are only partially correct some of the time and they are still able to keep their jobs... Locally approx 30 plus years ago we HAD a National Weather Service Station some years ago but due to goverrnmental meddeling it was closed and moved approx 90 miles to the east.. Which caused severe weather warnings be so late that by the time the alert was issued the weather event had already came thru...... And now the government was building another National Weather Service station about 45 miles west of the current location....So now maybe will get the warnings before severe weather arrives..Hopefully. Maybee. Wait and see. ..................................... drill sgt.
