I’ve been looking at both the Sig M17 & M18. Just can’t decide which one. The M18 is suppose to come with one 17 round & two 21 round magazines according to the Sig’s site video. The M17 is suppose to have 2 magazines.

Was getting ready to buy, now the dealer I was going to use is showing both pistols with only one magazine. Something about the Coronavirus affecting Sig. There will be a coupon to order another magazine after the epidemic is under control.

Right. Sure. I’ll be holding my breath on this one. And what about the three magazines for the compact. Coupon only says one extra magazine?

Seems like Sig could be pulling the old one magazine trick again, and using the Coronavirus as an excuse.

“Sorry, you only received one? We do have some extras you can buy at $49.95.”

It's also possible that the dealer has scavenged the extra mags out of the new pistols to sell on the side for extra profit, and Sig has nothing to do with it.

A lot of SIG's magazines are made my MECGAR in Italy. Since Italy was hit with the virus and quarantining a lot longer than U.S., factories shut down. My guess is they're running low on magazines due to the Italy shut down and that it's legit.

I checked with a buddy that owns a gun shop in Illinois and he said he just sold his last multi-mag Sig the other day and has been told by his distributors as well that all new shipments would only contain 1 mag.

He did not however clarify if the typical 3 mag guns would have a certificate for 2 additional mags. I've asked and will pass on any info he comes back with.

I'm sure with the surge in sales and companies dialing back numbers of people in plants they probably cannot keep up with the demand. Their focus would be getting guns out the door and if they wait for mags they won't be able to deliver guns.

Just heard back from my buddy and he was told that guns that usually ship with 3 mags will have 1 with the gun and a certificate good for 1 free mag at a later date.

Sounds like your best option is to either find the gun somewhere where they have old new stock with all the mags or wait until everything mellows out and they start shipping with all the mags again.

MecGar is in Italy.

Chek-Mate - Sig's other Mag manufacturer - is/was in NY.

Probably a temporary shortage.

My son bought a P320X5 Legion yesterday that literally just came out of the shipping box. 3 mags came with it with the Legion mark on them.

This is on Sig's end or the distributor's. I am an FFL and started seeing this on newly received inventory from Lipsey's starting this week. It's not an unscrupulous dealer at work.

If you're seeing guns with all the magazines, it's just stock from before this.

Mec-Gar Italy is still manufacturing, but with slightly reduced capacity the past few weeks to maintain social distancing in the factory. Our Italian division received special permission from the Italian government to remain open while almost all other manufacturing has been closed.

Gun sales have surged in a very short amount of time and unfortunately our product requiring stamping, heat treating, coating, and assembly takes some time to increase production, it unfortunately can't be done with a flip of a switch for a short term burst in demand.

Someone mentioned Checkmate. They are moving to Georgia. I don't think that move has been completed yet, and if it hasn't they are on Long Island, right near one of the hardest hit parts of the USA with the Coronavirus and we wish them to remain safe and healthy. With that being said, I don't know what their situation is with manufacturing since every state and company is different in how it's being handled.

**NOTICE: I only have general information. I do not have specific information about the manufacturing and sales agreements with any other company, or how they work/plan internally.**

Look at Sig's website, it shows the new SKU's with 1 mag. It's been posted for a couple weeks I think.

I’d rather wait for MecGar mags than get Checkmates immediately. All of my MecGar mags have been flawless.

I just looked at the website for the P320X5 Legion. Depending on which model you get they are offering either 1 mag or 3.

How do you figure? Is there not a coupon in each pistol box for a free magazine?

WildSig,

Thank you for checking with your buddy, I really appreciate it.

After all the speculation and tin foil hat wearing, I decided to get to the bottom of the magazine shortage. I called the Sig Sauer Customer Service directly.

After waiting on the phone for 47 minutes to talk with a Sig customer representative, I received an answer.

If I purchased a M17, I will receive one 17 round magazine with the pistol and a voucher good for one extra 17 round magazine.

If I purchased a M18, I will receive one 17 round magazine with the pistol and a voucher good for two extra 21 round magazines.

The voucher has a redemption number that will be used in conjunction with the serial number of the pistol when you register the pistol's warranty. When magazine production catches up, you will receive the extra magazine(s).

So there you have it. Straight from the horse's mouth.

I ordered a new M18 today. Expected delivery Monday at my FFLs. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the two 21 rounders do show up. Big Grin

Sorry V-Tail,

I'm not in the habit of naming dealers and bad mouthing them unless they definitely screw me over.

I look at it two different ways. It's his business and he can choose how he runs it.

It's my money and I can choose where I want to spend it.

It just seemed awful coincidental that the pistols he had one day included extra magazines. The next day they didn't.

I didn't order my new M18 from him. Eek
