I just passed through the room where my wife has the TV tuned to the noon news on the local NBC outlet and I saw the following:

"NORAD to continue tracking Santa despite partial government shutdown."

Why not just say "NORAD is tracking Santa?" Why is it necessary to throw in a jibe at our president? WHY?

Because they are not news. They are a propaganda arm of a political party.

That is all the media is. They sided with Obama as a shutdown being necessary in 2013. He refused to give into "ideological" demands on Obamacare, so it was justified.

The media is a propaganda arm, nothing more or less. I don't watch them so they don't bother me a bit.

A few years ago I quit watching network "news" and programs like liberal 60 Minutes, etc. I explained to my wife my reasons. Even our local FOX network is more about anchors chattering than reporting "news".

To make matters worse, a huge liberal leaning "news" conglomerate owns not only the largest AZ newspaper, but also three of the five network tv channels, leaving only ABC and FOX.

When we dropped the newspaper they asked why. We told them they're to liberal, the newspaper circulation representative said that's the common explanation they're hearing from others stopping their subscriptions.

My wife has finally recognized my wisdom. Razz

If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

How is this a jab at the President?

My Fox station said the same thing.

The Goobermint is closed, NORAD isn’t....pretty innocent as to who’s fault it is.

The implication is that President Trump is responsible for the shutdown.

I took it as more of a jab at the morons in Congress, since they are more directly responsible.

Yeah, it could be that, too.

The crawler on the bottom of the screen doesn't yield nuances, so it's pretty open to interpretation.

Because that "tracking Santa" stuff is supposed to be for the kids, and shoe-horning "government shutdown" into it is petty and chickenshit. Kids don't give the first damn about government shutdowns. They're oblivious to such things.

It's petty and it's chickenshit. Typical leftist pissing and moaning, looking for ANY chance to bitch and play the victim. Disgusting.

Tracking Santa: I did some software development as a contract programmer, on a project for BellSouth in the Birmingham area from 1995 to 1999.

I commuted in the V-Tail, flying home to the Orlando area on weekends.

One Christmas, we had a software release due to go into production just before the New Year. I stayed late at work on Christmas Eve, getting everything wrapped up, so I could take the holiday week off and be at home in Florida. By the time I got out of there, got to the airport, and got on my way homeward bound it was after midnight.

About 2:00 am I was cruising southeastward at 7,000 ft. Beautiful clear night, bright moon, very calm air, smooth ride. At two in the morning, there was very little radio traffic, so I was kind of startled when I got a call from Atlanta Center, with a traffic advisory: "November 8 8 2 4 Mike, you have traffic at ten o'clock, your altitude, slow moving. Looks like a sleigh and eight, no make that nine, reindeer. Contact Atlanta Center on <next controller's frequency> and have a Merry Christmas."

It's just like people who want to inject politics into everything. I'm happy forum administration here doesn't put up with that shit.

Cutting cable was one of the best things I ever did. Of course when the mother in law is here, which she isn't often, thank God, she has to watch the "news."

My take on the "news" is that of Denzel Washington from Training Day: it's bullshit.

You can't even watch sports these days without someone (sometimes the athletes themselves) injecting politics into it.

Wow.

I didn’t read it as a jab or injecting politics. The article I read the other day was due to a concern from parents that due to the looming shutdown, the Santa tracker wouldn’t be up. The article had an interview with someone from NORAD that was pretty much explaining just that.

It’s a direct response to concerns about the shutdown, so I’d expect the shutdown to be mentioned.

TV "news" is forbidden in my house, with the exception of sometimes "The Five," if Kat Timpf is on. Usually with the sound on mute.

I agree it’s a shot and doesn’t belong but I just didn’t see it directed entirely at the President.

And if this happened three years ago the response would've been "President Obama, praise be his name, has authorized Santa's flight despite republicans shutting down the government."

I’m going to bet, heavy, that NORAD has been unaffected during any, and all, government “shut downs.”
