Yeah, that’s what I call them, those decorative contour lights that are the latest automotive fad. They are just dumb and fugly. Nobody is going to be able to convince me they serve any practical purpose.
Oh, while we’re on the subject of automotive lights, what’s the deal with decorative lights that span the entire rear and/or front end?
Just more shit to break and money to replace.

As if the Hummer needed to be any more obnoxious...

has to have the lights span the entire width of the car so everybody will know you are driving one of those electrical doodads.

Fly-SigKeep in mind who is designing them these days. Kids who grew up playing video games mostly. The art department draws what it will look like, then the engineers make it so.
Also keep in mind all the regulations which force the basic shape to be nearly identical across all brands. Gone are the days of each brand having easily identifiable lines. The only way to differentiate between the competition is to have different lighting or different trim.

P250UA5I don't mind them as DRLs, problem is, so many of them [Dodge & Nissan mostly] are so bright, the rocket surgeons don't realize they don't actually have their headlights on.

stray dogHRK, is that a Cylon? BigSwede, is it a Transformer? They're here! they're out to get us!
Or, maybe people could spend a little less time decorating their vehicles and a little more time learning to drive them properly.

egregoreIf these are the ones I'm thinking of, I characterize them more as "eye
brow" lights. They are a small row of lights above the regular headlights that, when lit up at night, look like scowling eyebrows. They remind me of the Maya character in
Space: 1999.
I don't recall which car. Possibly some Kia models.

vthokyI've ranted about DRLs before. Short version: I hate them.
These goofy bars spanning the entire front end serve only to increase the obnoxiousness.
Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around.
