Slow (really slow) drivers.

Hint if you're driving along and a vehicle comes up behind you they have been going faster than you, slow down (making it safer to pass) and wave them around at the first passing opportunity. I appreciate when people do this for me and I certainly do it myself.

Yep, that's the simple solution, and what I do as well. If I'm hauling a huge truckload of wood or something and going slower than other traffic, I'll pull over at the closest opportunity and let everyone go around. We have a lot of agriculture around here...lots of tractors and combines on the road...and most of them are very good about it as well.

I was impressed when I was out in Oregon and Northern California there were a lot of pull-off lanes on two-lane highways for slower vehicles to use, and for the most part people actually use them. It made for a much more pleasant driving experience. And I was pulling a trailer on that trip, so I was usually one of the slow ones, and I actually appreciated having an easy way to not be the guy holding everybody else up.

So today, I was heading somewhere, running a little late stopped at an intersection, in the left lane, cars ahead of me, many behind me l, many in the right hand lane.
Light changes. The cars proceed in a not fast fashion, although the car in front of me is barely moving. I swear it took five seconds to get through the intersection, behind what turned out to be an Indian woman. After the car in front of her had gone 100 yards out ahead, I laid on the horn, and she sped up from maybe 10 miles an hour to 15. When the stream on my right cleared out I zoomed around her and glanced in the cars windows, and she gave ME a dirty look. For honking at her I suppose. Within 10 seconds I couldn’t even see her in my rearview mirror that’s how slow she was going.

In most states you're legally permitted to pass stopped or slow moving vehicles across double yellow lines (other than a school buss with flashing red lights).
Not in Virginia. From the Virginia driver's manual, page 11: "Double solid yellow lines mark the center of the road and separate traffic traveling in two different directions. Passing is not allowed in either direction. You may not cross the lines unless you are making a left turn or passing pedestrians, bicyclists, and riders of scooters or skateboards, when the opposite lane is clear and you can pass safely." No mention of vehicles.

I was told it's ok to pass slow vehicles in WV but googling I don't see it now. I know most everyone passes bicycles, tractors, horses, cars having problems driving very slow, etc. and parked cars. This came up though.

Exceptions for Slow-Moving Obstacles: Some states (such as North Carolina, Utah, Colorado, Virginia, Michigan, and Wisconsin) explicitly allow drivers to cross a double yellow line to pass very slow-moving objects like bicycles, farm equipment, or Amish buggies, provided the road is clear.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

In WV unless you like traveling in a cloud of dust behind a truck lumbering down the road you have passed any chance you find.

Yeah following a dump truck hauling sand that's blowing back at you is awful. There are a lot of places where a loaded truck has to slow down for a curve before going up a hill with a moderate straight and they just go from slow to slower so it's easy to overtake.

Them days are over! They aren’t texting man. They are on instacrap/fakebook/tik-thot/twatter. Gen Z averages over 8 hours a day on those. Even older people spend hours on it per day. Around here, everyone’s face is buried in the phone, even while driving! The phone + social media apps = nuclear. Everyone acts like assholes, drive like assholes, etc. The algorithm has given them MCS.

What is the Virginia statute for this?

In Montana, you are legally required to pull over and let people by if you have four or more vehicles behind you. Unfortunately, I have never...EVER...seen this enforced. I've been in lines of 20-30 vehicles behind some asshole doing ten or fifteen under and watched MHP cars just drive right on by in the other direction, or sitting on the side of the road watching the group go by. Mad

It should be legal to run these people off the road. It is especially bad during touron season.

I generally drive the posted speed limit +3-5 mph. When I was a teenager way back in the last century, 1960s, local cops would allow up to 3mph over the limit to account for variances in speedometers. That speed became a habit with me.
I hate the jerks that think they can get on my ass to "push" me to go faster.

The closer you follow the slower I go.

My side road enters a main state highway at the bottom of 2 hills. Speed limit is 55 on state road. If a car is at the top of the hill I can pull out safely if they are doing 55 but some the jerks are doing as much as 70 which means they close the gap in a hurry! Sometimes cars tuning off the main road get hit because idiots behind them can't seem to slow down.
There has been many accidents at this intersection because of this. So the state decided to put in a middle turn lane for the people making a left turn onto the side (gravel) road.
SO now when a person is making a right turn off the main road slows down to make a safe turn the mental giants following them are using the turn lane for a passing lane. I have seen several do this, some with some mighty close calls.

The roads would be so much safer and move smoother if everybody would travel the speed limit and just plane have respect for others.

Spot on, brother! I keep waiting to see speeders/weavers up ahead on a highway either getting a ticket or in an accident. Seen both.

On days I go to my P/T job at 0530, I end up driving about 8 miles thru a heavily wooded residential area. Posted limit is 35mph. I often go around 30mph due to the large potential for deer popping out unexpectedly at that time of the morning. Occasionally, people often pull right up behind me, obviously wanting me to go faster. When I reach a right turn lane, I pull over and let them by. One time I did that, the guy sped by and then stuck his hand out and flipped me off. Whatever, asshole. Roll Eyes

...then folks wouldn't tailgate and gjgalligan wouldn't have to slow down.

If they should hit me in the rear end the slower speed lessens the chance for injury to me and damage to my vehicle.
And yes it vents some of my anger too!
