AI is going to make EVERY job redundant. We're in for a very interesting time, it'll go one of 2 ways, hopefully the AI likes us.

Semper Fi - 1775 |
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this movie… AI systems are learning to lie and deceive, scientists find Research has revealed concerning findings about AI systems known as large language models (LLMs) and their ability to deceive human observers intentionally. Two studies, one published in the journal PNAS and the other in Patterns, highlight the unsettling capabilities of LLMs. The PNAS paper, authored by German AI ethicist Thilo Hagendorff, suggests that advanced LLMs can exhibit “Machiavellianism,” or intentional and amoral manipulativeness, which can lead to deceptive behavior. Mr. Hagendorff notes that GPT-4, a model within OpenAI’s GPT family, demonstrated deceptive behavior in simple test scenarios 99.2% of the time. He quantified various “maladaptive” traits in ten different LLMs, most of which belong to the GPT family, Futurism reports. Meanwhile, the Patterns study examined Meta’s Cicero model, which was designed to excel in the political strategy board game “Diplomacy.” This research, led by Massachusetts Institute of Technology postdoctoral researcher Peter Park, involved a diverse team comprising a physicist, a philosopher and two AI safety experts. — more to the article in the link — ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Staring back from the abyss |
I view AI along the same lines as I do gain-of-function microbiological research. There is no need to do this, other than, "Hey, let's see what this'll do!". Nothing good will come of it and I am convinced that we will rue the day we opened this Pandora's box. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." If they really believe that, they need to cut DoD's funding. I can't talk about the other branches but the Army is all about developing drone swarm type capabilities and using AIesq systems for targeting, maintenance.. Breaking Defense has articles about it all the time.

Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished |
Where I work it's the opposite, they are trying to use it for everything. We're already being told it's going to save the company millions, talk about hype. I think in the next couple of years it will be used to replace developers we're paying like $10 an hour in India. Except in some limited cases, the code I've seen from it isn't very good. But hey, supposedly "it works" so that's all the matters, right?

Them and all the help desk people, too.
