Got the email from them tonight, unless you upgrade and start paying fees, no more hot linking your images to any 3rd party site, ie Ebay, Gunbroker, Sigforum (any forum).

Time to move the images so I need a new host..

bastages...

WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*

TO RESTORE YOUR 3RD PARTY HOSTED IMAGES,
PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN.

What is 3rd Party Hosting?
Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.
Why Photobucket?
Photobucket continues to have the distinct pleasure of hosting 15 billion photos from 100 million unique users since inception 14 years ago.
The subscriptions we offer are price competitive & we offer unlimited 3rd party hosting, no matter how popular your image is on your forum, blog or online store.
Additionally, we offer our users the opportunity to promote their business or products with the rest of the Photobucket community.

So other than linking images wtf would you use a web based image storage portal

So that's what's happening. Am I reading right, it would be $9.99/month for a plan that supports 3rd party hosting? That's "price competitive", going from free to 10 bucks a month?

Taking recommendations for an alternative image host.

I haven't received this email yet. I can still see my Avatar. I wonder how long I'll be able to.

I've been using Fototime for several years with no problem, $23.95 (other "plans" available at greater cost, but this one is more than sufficient for my needs) a year.

With all the ads popping up at photobucket lately it sucks anyway.
So I'm looking for a place to migrate to as well.
My avatar is working too, but I moved it to imageshack where I just paid $3.99 for a month so I could retrieve a bunch of pictures I had there since it went to a pay deal.

I just checked a post I made with pictures and it was fine.

I guess they'll find me now and block me as well. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to move them somewhere else and tell them to go fornicate themselves.

I had about 100 images, not all linked, maybe 20 or so, my avatar was linked from Photobuttcrap, so had to find a temp solution.

Still need to find a good hosting solution.

Imageshack is really working nice. I'm on a $3.99 a month deal for a month. If I buy a year the price goes down to $37.99 a year.
Not out of the question at around $3.00 a month.
But I'm looking at some free sites as well.

Photobucket can eat me. Especially since it doesn't work half the time. I hope they, and their ransom bs, go under.

Taking any/all recommendations for other hosting.

Even better. It went from free to 40 bucks a month. To get third party hosting on Photobucket now, it's $39.99 per month, or $399 per year.

"Price competitive", my ass. Nearly all other pay photo hosting sites are a few bucks a month. $40 should get you a year, not one month.

Even beyond their ridiculous pricing, the fact that they suddenly switched everything overnight with zero warning is entirely unacceptable. Even if their prices were more reasonable, pulling that stunt guaranteed that I wouldn't stay with them.

And judging by what I'm seeing online, I'm far from alone. I foresee Photobucket tanking shortly.

Oh well... It was a long time coming. I've been frustrated with Photobucket for quite some time, but stuck with it because the irritation of dealing with Photobucket didn't outweigh the hassle of moving my hundreds of photos to somewhere else. (Not to mention screwing up all the photos I've posted over the years on various forums.) This was just the kick in the butt I needed to jump ship.

I just bought a year of Imageshack for $18.99. Keep an eye out for that offer.

I created an account, then as I was working on migrating my photos over to Imageshack, I got a popup offering a year for 50% off.
