People that think chewing gum is biodegradable
Moved from the lair- accidentally blinded by rage Razz

There is a special place in hell for them. Littered with wads of gum on piping hot blacktop and every labored step they take results in stringy gum stretching with every which-way. For eternity.

If I absolutely had to spit out gum, I’d do it in the bushes or in the gutter. I usually use a trash can, though. I don’t understand why people spit it out on the sidewalk.

One thing nice around here is that I don’t remember the last time I bumped into someone chewing gum.

One of the most annoying demonstrations of chewing gum I’ve seen was in the movie In The Heat Of The Night.

Biodegradable thing or not, I hate it when people litter.

Gum may have as its 'base' polyisobutylene (PIB) in certain molecular weight range. Vistanex was a tradename of PIB used in gum. Not sure these days, but a brief search shows that the compound is still used in this application.

How about regular spit on the sidewalk? I think that’s almost in the same vein.

hahaha, it's against the law in some places.

there was this kid (yeah, 20s, but i'm old) that we knew had drugs on him but he was just walking around in circles at the bus stop all day. the second he spat on the sidewalk, bingo, here's a citation, of course he started a fight so he went to jail and drugs were found on him.

My students chewed gum. Worse was that they’d “Crack” it. Class is quiet, heads down, people are working… the CRACK!

In my school days there would have been a second crack. That of the 4 foot long 3/8th inch diameter pointer wielded by Sister Mary Ann across the back of the perpetrators head. Big Grin

Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost overnight.

This thread caused me to ponder something I hadn’t thought about in a long time: Do people still chew gum?

Trigger Warning: According to an Internet search, yes, well over half of American adults chew gum. That’s the Internet of course, so perhaps it’s not accurate, but if it is, I was surprised by the answer because I don’t recall seeing anyone doing that these days, and (thankfully) I haven’t noticed what the original post is about. I wonder if it’s a regional thing, or if it’s just something I should be more aware of.
