I was at a stop sign at the exit to my housing area, waiting for a break in traffic. A kid rolls up and hits my rear end. I'm okay, wife's okay, I go check on the kid, he's okay but 23 years old an about to piss his pants. I get him calmed down, we get off to the side and evaluate the damage. I wiped my "damage" of with a microfiber cloth. Another wipe at his car reveals a small scratch. We both talked for a minute, I took his info, and we parted friends. Kinda nice to have a non-confrontational incident.

I had a similar collision about 25 years ago--only I was the one behind. We were in stop-and-go traffic and I'd looked over my shoulder to see if I could merge into another lane, not realizing my lane had stopped again. I'd had my foot over the brake pedal, but ended up tapping the rear end of a much nicer car than mine and I figured I was about to get reamed out by some irate rich guy. But he was totally cool about it, said not to worry about it and left before I got back into my car.
I've personally seen an alarming number of people run from a collision. It's comically refreshing to see people be responsible these days.

I had one of those on college. Was at a light & got tapped from behind. I had a '96 Infiniti J30 at the time. I was a TX licensed security officer [non-armed neighborhood security on Lake Conroe] & was in uniform. The kid's [had to be HS age] eyes had a bit of panic when I got out of the car.
Tiny dimple in my bumper from the bolts on his front license plate. Made sure the kid was ok & said no big deal, and went off for my shift. This message has been edited. Last edited by: P250UA5,
One of the problems with cars now is that they are so fragile. The slightest bump costs thousands to repair.
Back in the mid-80s, not long after I got married, we had an old 1975 Chevy wagon. I got hit in a parking lot by an older fellow which put a nice sized dent in the bumper.
He was very apologetic, admitted he was at fault, and offered me his insurance information. I said, 'Sir, this car is only worth about $500 and another dent isn't going to change that.' We shook hands and went on our way.

had a 1978 Chevy El Camino with a reciever hitch (welded to car frame) w/ball installed... Stopped at red light when a small car hit me from behind...Got out to inspect damage... Mine hardly knocked the dust off of the hitch but a nice hole punched thru her front bumper and dented the car grill..... She wanted to forget the incident but I demanded that the police respond just to get a incident report so that she could not claim a hit and run against me for insurance claim or what kind of story she would tell her significant other... Nothing ever became of the incident... CYA every time. ..................... drill sgt.

When I was about 21 in the rain I slid into a 70 year old woman, small dent in bumper, I'll pay for it! She asked Do you go to church? I said Yes Maam, Western Hills Church of Christ. She smiled and said don't worry about it. I've been rear ended twice with superficial damage. I smiled and said don't worry about it.
Did you figure out why he hit you? Was he on his phone?

Years ago, rush hour, busy 4 lane, turning left from small side street. Middle school kid on opposite side of the street sees the same break in traffic. Hit the kid in the middle of the road (no crosswalk). I’m helping him pick up his stuff in the middle of the road. Karen comes running over, I’ve called the police…my car was old, maybe a light scratch. Ask the kid if he’s good, “yeah, you?” We both scatter like cockroaches with Karen yelling at us.
Early in all of the 2020 COVID shit I was at the grocery store and parked in a weird aisle on the edge of the lot where one side was perpendicular spaces and the other side was angled. The pavement markings indicated two way traffic. Another guy and I managed to back into each other. The odd lot configuration was a contributing factor. We both looked at our cars, neither appeared to have anything worse than a scratch, and we agreed to just call it a draw.
It was kind of refreshing given all of the stupid shit happening in the world at the time.

No, he wasn't on his phone. I got out and checked for injuries right way, there was no phone in sight. He just misjudged the distance.
Once upon a time, about 1980, I had a new AMC Spirit. (I was young.) My wife parked it by the PX in Germany. While she was shopping, a Captain backed into it and freaking destroyed the rear end of his VW Golf. Wife called and I came down, and Joe Captain was making all kinds of threats. I called the MP's, and when they found out my car was PARKED at the time, they did whatever write up they do. Funny thing was, I had a huge bumper that was actually loose after the accident. I took it the the military "self serve" garage, and an old sergeant laughed and said that the bumper on this particular model was mounted on pistons filled with grease. He pumped some into the Zerk fittings and all was well.

Yup, glad there were no injuries or major damage. I still won’t forget probably 10 years ago while I was at the grocery store I was backing out of my parking space. A truck behind me was parked in a handicapped spot and not fully pulled in. At probably 1-2 MPH I barely tapped the bumper of the truck. Knowing I made contact, I pulled back into my space and went to inspect the other vehicle for any damage and to leave a note with my information and explanation. To my surprise the driver was sitting in the truck. He got out and we looked at his bumper and there was a nickel sized ding in his bumper. We exchanged all information including insurance but I told him since it was so minor I would pay for the repair out of my own pocket if he would get three quotes for the repair. He was fine and said absolutely nothing of being “injured”.
Nope. What did this asshat do? He filed a lawsuit with my insurance company that I hit him so hard with him sitting in the vehicle that it caused him bodily injury furthering his current disability. I wanted to fight it as it was complete BS since a literally barely tapped his bumper as such a low speed. I told the insurance company to get the camera video from the store as this was in the front row of the parking spaces. Nope. My insurance settled and gave the asshat $20,000 and of course raised my insurance. I told them if they got the video they could have easily won on my behalf. Basically they said unless it is over $25,000 they just settle and don’t even try to fight it. Wow, thanks Jake from State Farm!!!!!
To this day I see that guy in the grocery store every so often and it takes every part of me not to go tell him off. I am sure as kindly as I would do it, he would turn it into some kind of threat.

The first car accident I was involved in was when I was about 20 or 21. I was sitting at a stop light in my 73 Nova, early Sunday morning on my way to church, where I worked. A lady, maybe 30ish, tried to roll up to my right to make a turn but misjudged it, making impact with her drive side front corner vs the rear passenger cover of my Nova, read: solid bumper. It was super fast but fast enough to crumple her fender. My bumper was fine.
I helped her pull her fender off her tire so she could continue on her way, and I on mine. No harm no foul.
