PHPaulNuns and chainsaws
Anybody seen the spot on Fox about the nun in Florida that grabbed a chainsaw and started clearing a road?
In full habit?
Who has obviously never used a chainsaw before?
With a saw that's about as sharp as a marble?
I may have seen a more obviously scripted photo op before but it don't occur to me when that might have been.

rburgI think she did a passable job. I don't even agree that she'd never used one before. I don't think I'd have attacked it the same way she did, but to her credit, she was out there working at it.
On one of the shows they said she grew up in Texas and had done yard work with her family.

Rey HRHYou ask what kind of nun would do that?
Nun ya biznez.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." FdanIn the movie "The Sound of Music," the Mother Superior looked surprisingly like John Wayne and he could REALLY handle a chain saw!

bubbatimeOne of the first hurricane related deaths in Florida was of a man using a chainsaw. It kicked back into his neck, killing him.

Chain saws in the hands of people who do not know how to use them are very dangerous. I have seen some really stupid stuff taking place by folks who should have known better. But then I grew up in N. Idaho where a LOT of people used chainsaws. My step dad even had a small one with about a 10 inch bar. Used it to quarter and prepare deer and elk while hunting up in the high country.

guardianangel762I am sure if she could have picked a chainsaw, she would have picked the good sharp one.
She is in a shit situation and equipment is what you can get. I was in Katrina and the aftermath of that I often wanted better equipment than what I had. You have to make due with crap sometimes.
