No joke. Bass Pro/Cabelas stink. I have only ever been able to buy one gun from them and that was years ago. It is a major hassle to even look at something. I don't bother to go there anymore.

What was Cabela’s is now dead to me. I spent a lot of money there in the past, including the purchase of a boat, but no more. When I called to cancel my Cabela’s credit card, the person I was talking to said, “May I ask why?”

Because you’re not Cabela’s any more, was my reply.

If Disneyland is the “Happiest Place on Earth,” then Sidney, Nebraska is the saddest. It’s been gutted since the VC leveraged the sale to Bass Pro.

I miss the old Cabelas. We used to stop in Dundee on the way Up North every year. Now we stop at Jay's in Gaylord.

The Dundee store is a mere shell of itself. It seems to be mostly clothing and decor items.

My observation is all these "sporting goods and outfitter" stores are mostly in the clothing business. People love buying "athletic" clothing a lot more than actually participating in "athletics" given the typical physiques you see.

Retail in general is hurting. Sure they have "data" showing that: constant reorganizing of stores to make it hard to find things, lacking aisles with straight paths to get where you want to go, and putting tables filled with junk in the middle of aisles to block your path all "increase sales". That may have been true when retail was the only option.

But for me, I just don't go to retail stores and buy most stuff online. Retail stores like to waste my time, so I choose not to let them. Given the number of retailers going under and closing stores and reporting reduced sales, you think they would learn.

I get tired of every store wanting to offer me their credit card, asking me if I want to donate to some charity, and all the other crap that slows down the checkout process and creates longer lines.

My son worked at Cabelas for 4 months and the employees were constantly pressured to push the CCs. If the employee didn’t get a certain percentage to sign up within a particular timeframe, the employee was let go. My son hated the ridiculously long gun buying process, but he just had to go along with it and the 200 different manager verifications they require.
