I HATE this tipping culture. Hate it. It’s one reason I will never go to Vegas again. Every time you talk to someone, a tip is expected.

What confuses me are contractors (plumbers, electricians, pest control, yard maintenance, others) - to tip or not to tip? Owner vs employee? How much to tip - fixed? Percentage? What about bills (ie - termite treatment) that costs $2000. I’m not tipping $400 (20%) - that seems insane.

And then restaurants which charge an extra 5% (example) because of min wage increases (by law) and then expect 20%+ tips as well. If tips were 15% before, why am I getting hit twice for min wage increases?

If tips are necessary to ensure prompt service, it’s not a business I want to patronize.

There are several of the new "self service" car washes near us, you have a greeter at the gate, a guy that waves you into the track, squirts some bug eating fluid on the front and pushes a button.

Nobody wipes the car down for you, nor do they vacuum out the car, clean the windows, empty trash.

And it's not inexpensive either, $18 to $40 a wash, you dry it, you vac it out, you clean the windows.

And when you pay going in electronically it comes up asking if you want to tip 18,22 or 25%
to whom, for doing what..... Taking my money?

Unreal, I'm in the wrong business though because the place is packed all the time.....

So my son got a haircut today. He tried to leave a tip but the system was confusing and his $5.00 tip became .05 cents. He’s not taking the time and gas to go back and say here’s my intended tip for the large woman working Saturday afternoon (he has never seen her before so that was his only descriptor).

I would read that to mean you tip at the beginning.

That is indeed the way you're supposed to tip at high end establishments. It is considered un-refined to leave a monies on the table at the end of the meal.

It is a lot like tipping a valet when you hand them the keys to park your car...it is a bit of lost ritual in American society...it ensures that the car will be parled carefully and retrieved promptly when you return

No, Daoism isn't a religion
