Yes, I know it is daycare it is going to happen but today is excessive. He is three and has a very clear bite mark to the left rib area, bruising to the right elbow area, left side of his face, and likely a bite mark on his left hip. Hard to tell as not as defined at the rib area but his pants were a lot thicker than his T-shirt.
It is clearly being done by another child, nothing consistent with one of the workers doing it.
It is frustrating we have had a kid or two at this place for almost 4 years now. Up until about a year ago it was top notch. More of a learning center very directed activities even with the little ones, very rarely were kids just playing wild. The staff was older, no cell phones were allowed in the rooms with the care takers, they were very attentive to the kids and what they were doing. Always had the same caretakers in the room. Any sort of bite or physical issue to ones child was noted and we were informed immediately and it was discussed on pickup. Got a note everyday with what they ate, how they napped, what they were learning etc.
The center got a new director and things have been in decline. Lots of staff turn over and most of the caretakers are very young, most now have their cell phones with them, and the activities are far less directed and much more romper room style. The care takers are far less attentive to the class and they don’t catch things like this and separate kids when an issue arrives. The caretakers never seem to be in the same room but all float around. No notifications of anything. Before even if they did not see what happened but noticed a bruise they would call. Today little fella looked like he came from a battle. He is not really old enough to tell what happened other than a friend hurt him.
Not quite old enough for the old you will not get in trouble with us for fighting back speech.
Frustrating. Sent pics to the director and are going to have a sit down.
Thankfully he is only there 3 days. August he will start preschool so he will no longer be there. Very much looking forward to that.

Unless this is an isolated incident, you might now have a bully enrolled there.

I experienced bullying most of the years I went to school, but it never started until the third grade.

Daughter in law is a teacher and she had a student in the second grade that not only bullied the kids, but he used to hit her as well.
The school put up with it for two years. They finally kept calling the mom in(drug user) and she defended him tooth and nail, but she eventually pulled him out of that school.

Hope for you and sons sake it does not happen again. Good luck.

Isolated so far.
They have come home with a little something here or there but was swiftly dealt with.
Today we was covered. In the brief conversation on the phone this evening apparently there is a new younger kid that is smaller and much less verbal. Sounds like biting, pinching, and grabbing is his main communication.

WTF?? Bite marks?

I'm sorry I guess I'm a bit over reactive but that is total BS. That other kid should be removed immediately from the day care. Bite marks that hard are ridiculous, not to mention who knows what funky little bastard germs are in that kids mouth. Not to mention wtf were the teachers doing during this chompfest.

We had this happen to our daughter when she was in preschool. She was 3 or 4 years old. She came home and told us another little girl had been pushing her. We told her to tell the teachers when it happened and my wife talked to the staff. It didn't stop and progressed to hair pulling and pushing our daughter down from behind. The second time our daughter came and told us what was going on, she was scared to go back. I went in and talked to the owner. She said she knew who the other girl was and that she had been a problem. I told her that if that girl touched my daughter again, they were going to have a problem they didn't want. Two days later we were informed that they had kicked the girl out of the center. No more problems after that.

I suggest talking to the staff/owners and documenting your issues. If they won't remove the kid who is messing with yours, take yours out. They're going to lose money one way or the other. As was the case with our center, they'd much rather keep the money of the good kids than that of the "bully" with the headache.

Completely unacceptable !!! When my oldest son was in Elementary school some other child would spit on him regularly. I had no idea until he told me about it. I quickly went to the Principal and told him that I gave my son permission to beat the hell out of that other boy if he did it again. I informed him to allow another child to spew bodily fluids on my son was an attack and he will defend himself accordingly. I would inform the Director that Law Enforcment will be notified, with charges being filed if there is another "incident". My . 02, but we arent talking about a little noogie here! Please be direct and forceful with this! Good luck ! sigguy(the 1st).

Wade into them. No excuse for this. I was fortunate that during our day care era, I was able to get the kid into a church based day care. That sort of thing was not tolerated and rightfully so.
And check with the local licensing agency to ensure that when the new owners took over, that they were properly licensed. The licensing agency may have other reports like yours and may need to investigate.

Daycare was like Lord of the Flies at one place I attended. There was this one girl Megan that used to pick on me. I had enough the day she threw a wet wipes container filled with rocks at my head and split it open. I took a chomp on her arm bad enough we got to ride in the Amber lamps together. We both ended up with stitches that day. I still have the scar 30+ years later, she probably does too.

Daycare is scary.

I assumed that in today's environment, daycare would have Nanny Cams.

I guess that shows just how far out of the loop I am.

My stepmother owns and runs a daycare here in PA and IIRC it's actually a state law that the teachers CANNOT have their phones or any other device that would distract them even for a few seconds. They are very strict about it and everyone must leave their phone in a holder in the main office for the day and only to be checked during breaks.

She tells me she's seen an uptick of kids acting out violently with hitting and biting and thinks they acting out things they see on TV or in movies they have no business seeing at that age. Goddamn clueless POS parents. Mad

We had a biter in day care when my youngest was two. My wife and I went to complain. As we were talking, we looked out the window and saw five 2 year olds whupping up Sydney, the biter. My kid was in the lead. That solved the problem. I had to talk sternly to my daughter about it-over ice cream.

Many do. Mine does, in fact I was watching my son on it when he got close to another kid who bit him on the face. At that moment I felt like Woodrow Call watching Dixon beat Newt. But I calmed down and went over and discussed the situation with the center and the caregivers in the room. Apparently the biter had a history and was under close monitoring, although not quite close enough. With 12 kids and 2 teachers, it's tough to see and prevent everything, especially when it blows up quickly. They felt horrible, and said all the right things, but it still burned me up. But, turns out biting is not all that uncommon. My sister-in-law is a psychologist who deals with this and other childhood behavioral issues, and my center had steps in place to deal with offenders. It never happened again, and not long after the biter was nowhere to be seen in that room. I guess she chewed her way out of daycare.

I would be extremely aggressive in resolving this issue. A 3 year old can't advocate very effectively for themselves.

Take pictures of all injuries. Talk to the principle or owner. If it happened a second time, I would be looking for another pre-school.......

just talk to the provider. Yes you should be concerned and ask them identify and improve monitoring of the offending toddler but for all you know your kid may haven bitten someone as well: This is not bullying!!!

just reread your post. I would bail....not because of the biting but the poor supervision!!! a medical emergency or choking could be life or death!

At our center you can rewatch the days events until the place closes, then it is unavailable. Not saying it is erased from their files, although it might be, but it would be unwieldy to
provide every day’s activities from multiple rooms for parental viewing on demand. You’d have to ask them to view it, if they still have it.

In Texas reporting such incidents is required by the provider. If they are not coming to you and you report it to the State AG, they could loose their license to operate.

Not a camera on the property.

My wife spoke with the director today. It was a meh conversation. Just said well no one saw it happen.
I’ll likely be talking with the owners.
We have 3 months till he starts preschool. Hoping we can squeeze it out alright. Trying to find another place for a short period of time may be difficult.
