Loose is an adjective meaning “not tight.”

Lose is a verb meaning to be unable to find something or cease to have possession or control of it. Words that have similar meanings are “lost” (past tense of lose) and “loss” (the noun synonym). Note that all three similar words have only one letter “o” and not two.

Examples:
“After being punched in the mouth, I had a loose tooth.”
“My Glock is a loose fit in this holster and I might lose it.”
“I don’t want to lose my car keys so I wired them to this 2×4 board.”

It's an epidemic. Been going on for years through out the net. Probably an alien experiment to see how easily earthlings are confused. Based on the results, invasion is all but ensured.

Yeah, that one annoys me.

Same with people interchanging "looser" for "loser." Similar to people writing "poseur" for "poser." I don't care if "poseur" is in Merriam-Webster, there's no need for a second spelling of the same word. Really isn't.

I rarely read my posts before I hit the post button and auto correct will pick the spelling or insert a word that makes absolutely no sense.

Ah: An interesting question.

I haven’t seen anyone differentiate between the two in literally decades, and the first, last, and only person in my personal experience who ever did that was my mother. Her contention was that “done” referred to something in the oven or otherwise food that was being cooked. Otherwise it’s finished. Because I have never seen anyone else make the distinction I have never known whether that was actual proper word usage or was just how she understood it.
