Cabela’s yet again
So I’ve got all of my Smith & Wesson Mountain Guns back from the factory and they’re all functioning. But I absolutely hate the Bear Hug grips on the 686, they are painful when shooting full magnum loads.

So looking at the new Smith & Wesson revolvers they have their own rubber grips that wrap around the backstrap. Cool! Go online to Smith & Wesson to order and they won’t ship to Alaska. Bummer. Wait, I’m flying into Denver next month for my god son’s graduation from University of Wyoming. I can have them shipped to his parents’ house and pick them up when I’m down there. Cool!

Then start to think before I go to the time and expense of ordering them, maybe I should look at them first. My concern is with the covered back strap it would lengthen the reach to the trigger. I’ve got Hogue tamers on my 329 which cushion the back strap and are pretty much a necessity on that gun, I just don’t like the additional reach to the trigger.

Stop into Cabela’s and they have both a 686 and a 610 with the new style grips. Cool! They have trigger locks on them and there’s no way to judge the reach to the trigger. Bummer.

Is the sales stuff unable to remove the trigger locks for you to look things over?

They may want a state issued ID before allowing it it be handled.

I've had mixed experiences with this issue at my local Cabelas/Bass Pro. When they first instituted the lock policy, they had zero tolerance about removing it even for a function check on a used firearm. Lately they seem to have relaxed it a bit.

I can send you a "key" if you want it, I have a stack from back in the day. You might get in trouble, though. Sportsman's butt got tight when I used one.

I put the 500 Magnum grips on my 686 and 610 revolvers. However I do have a hand span of 9 inches.

I've stopped counting.
