Well for however bad your buddy says Jeeps are at least at 140k I’m still on the original steering gear, transmission, camshaft and lifters, more that I could say for the GMC Sierra that it replaced. At 150k that along with three instrument clusters, two seat belts. Three HVAC resistor modules, one blend door and many other things I’ve forgotten

I almost bought a Ford until my buddies fairly new F-250 needed a new rear, pumkin and all, after 5 tries of them fixing the old one...

My point is that not only do Jeeps seem to need good deal of maintenance/repairs, they have an almost cult like following and I can't understand why. A friends wife bought the biggest JEEP SUV there is, with all the options, 90K Plus... The electronics don't work, still after 3 months, they did not work when she bought it, they said needs software update... Who sells a car that does not work and who buys one...After 3 months she plays music and navagates with her I Phone...Just like I do in my 30 year old Camry...Yeah I want a JEEP!!

And then there are the not so serious off road characters who buy them and bolt on every after market item then can find, stripped fenders, red springs, monster shocks, bumpers, winch, pick/shovel, traction plates strapped to their safari roof racks along with a couple extra cans of fuel or whatever..10 light bars which they always seem to need at night driving down Jersey's suburban well lit roads-(look at me)..
And thank god they have rock sliders, would not want them damaged on one of those concrete things in parking lots at the mall. And After all that, I never see a dirty one, most look brand new on the bottom so I doubt they even see rain... But boy do they know how to drive aggressively on the road, weaving in and out of traffic and roaring up to you at red lights...very impressive especially if they take the doors off so you can hear their stereo 10 cars away... Guy at my gym has one of those Hummer like doofy pickups, loaded with stuff.. the pick and shovel really kills me..IN NJ!!! along with this gigantic jack and two monster spare tires, cans of gas, I wonder where he keeps his tooth brush...

I know there is a lot of Judging above, but JEEPs are no better off road than Toyota and need more maintenance by far. Want a very capable off road SUV, get a 4 runner, mid size pick up - its hard to beat an off road Tacoma.. My last 4 runner went 240K miles in 14 years with normal maintenance and ZERO problems, (Forgot the one window motor that made noise) and it saw off road, mud, hunting, boat towing. I'm disapointed with my present Taco, after 9 years it broke the AC clutch..30 bucks and 30 minutes..

I just don't get the Jeep thing..

THIS right here, is why many (most?) drive a JEEP!

At least in Michigan you can tell who’s Jeep isn’t just Mall Rated. We need two permits, an ORV and a Trail sticker to go off road here.
