I am trying to hire someone and waiting on the state of Illinois to do the criminal background check is taking weeks. Ridiculous. I needed him to start a month ago, and now I am still waiting and his start date is moved back another 2 weeks. This is nuts.

This is from a state he hasn't lived in for 20 years! I am trying to get an exemption, but getting anything exempted through HR might as well be asking for 100lbs of gold. Grrrr.....

I’ve heard about slow process times for the IL FOID background checks & card. I just don’t see how you can speed it up for anyone. A buyer??


If that’s the case, maybe take a deposit then transfer once all is complete?

Can you contact the sheriff in the county in which he resided?

If your company has got a clean background check on him covering the last 20 years, seems like you should be able to argue that’s indicative of an acceptable applicant. Even if they find the guy was arrested for smoking weed in Illinois 25 years ago, so what? You won’t be allowed to hire him? If he lied about a felony conviction, he’ll be fired immediately as soon as the data finally shows up from Illinois, so seems like a low risk hire if he really comes across as wanting to work!

I'm just curious as to the process....

I know the people in charge at my church run a check on anyone wanting to work with the young people.....

This. I contracted with a local business when I owned my company. Usually got results within a week or less.

Make sure they vote Democratic. As a former resident this is how thing get done.

When I was renting the duplex next door we could go to the P.D. and for a fee the would provide background checks and credit reports with the
Approval of the
prospective tenant.

We passed the fee on to the tennent.
