Sizzling pickles....

Lord VaalicSizzling pickles....
I bought some of the Cleveland Kitchen Dilly Garlic pickles from Wal mart and they were tasty. So I buy another container, and after a week or so in the fridge, I notice the container is swelling up, and I try a pickle and it is super acidic. Not edible.
So I throw them away, figure something odd happened, and pick up a new container. After about 3 days in the fridge, this time this one is unopened, I see this one is swelling up a lot. So I put it in the sink and open it, and its literally sizzling and bubbling. looked and sounded like a soda you had just poured over some ice. There was an awful super acidic smell to them also. So I pitched them out.
WTF with an exploding pickle? I mean is fermentation still happening in the sealed container?

PASigSounds like fermentation for sure. Fresh pickles can keep on going, the kind in the jar are cooked and dead.

Yeah. I looked at the Cleveland Kitchen web site, which says that they’re “lightly fermented”. Maybe Lord Vaalic‘s had progressed beyond “lightly”.

Scooter123I would suggest you get some Clausen Pickles. The ones that "have never been heated" and are sold in the refrigerated isle. Been eating Clausen pickles since my Dad Married by Stepmom back in 1971, never ever had a bad jar.
I've stopped counting.

Kilroy2721Clausen are the best, but I haven't seen any Garlic pickles around here lately.

V-TailClaussen Hearty Garlic Pickles are my favorites, have not seen them forever.
Publix sometimes has these, they're not bad. A bit more on the peppery side, compared to Claussen. Same area in the store, the deli cooler section.

Scooter123Clausen's normal Dill Pickles do have Garlic in them. Not an overwhelming amount but just the perfect amount to make a very tasty pickle.

True, but the "Hearty Garlic" are household favorites here, when we can find them.

No, it's about the fine pickle you have with that masterpiece of a burger you just created on the grill. They not only taste fantastic but they also check off the Vegetable Box on the Federally Approved Diet Pyramid. Yes, I am a Man and if it's Green it's a vegetable.
