PHPaulWar movies and romantic involvement.
I re-watched
In Harm's Way last night, but it's a common bitch for me in war movies in general and B&W era war movies in particular.
Our Hero (John Wayne as Rockwell Torrey) has the hots for The Navy Nurse (Patricia Neal as Maggie) and a significant portion of the footage is about their relationship.
I give exactly zero shits about your love life, Scooter! IMHO it adds nothing whatever to the movie.
Another prime example is Midway and the snot-nosed lieutenant's affair with a Nisei girl. Zero fucks given.
Thank God for streaming and fast forward...

What you got against a couple old folks getting it on?
I resemble that!

Seriously, I thought that one was OK, in fact it's one of my favorite movies. I'm with you on the Midway example, though. Nothing added to the story line.

SchmelbyAnother reason Band of Brothers was great. Ten episodes and only
one scene had a hint of sex in it.
They screwed up the Pacific with love story.

Exactly. On both counts.

SigSauerP226Maybe they’re actually romance flicks in a war setting

Then they should purposely add in a guy at a rifle range in a chic flick.

YooperSigsIt was amazing to me that the Duke managed a little quality time with Donna Reed in "They Were Expendable".
During the fall of the Philippines and Bataan, no less.

HRKWhile some believe these parts are in there for female viewers, in reality it gives men the time to go take a leak, check the oil in your truck, open up a beer, pop some more popcorn....

Tom Hardy's screen debut as the Private who jumps to attention in multiple ways.
Pacific had bigger problems, since it was three different stories of three unrelated characters it lacked cohesiveness like Band of Brothers and the recent Masters of Air. But the side romance plots didn't help.

Yep, that's the scene. Didn't know that was Tom Hardy. Was he skinnier then?

If he's good looking and knows what he's doing, that's fine by me. I'll take handsome guy with a gun over a weepy, woke guy with a puppy any day.

Of course not all of us female viewers want a love story in the middle of a war movie. One reason I like Band of Brothers so much is that there isn't a love story.
