Don't Ever Loan Out Your Lawnmower
I have a friend that's a disabled vet . He borrowed my grinder about a month ago . He came over to help me work on my mower and I mentioned it to him . I really didn't understand his response but he said something about buying me another one . I paid 10 bucks for it at Harbor Freight , I'm not going to say anything more about it. He supplements his disability by working odd jobs and he dropped what he was doing to come help me when I called him .

I loaned my Graco 390 paint sprayer to a buddy of mine , told him had to run tons of water thru it when he is done after spraying latex paint until the water is crystal clear, he brought it back a week later full of paint, said he didnt have time to wash it out. Mad

Neither a borrower nor a lender be.

In my former business, we have to provide almost all of our own tools. Every now and then there is a situation where you don't have the tool you need, so sometimes borrowing one is necessary. The general understanding or unwritten rule is that A, you return it, and B, the next time the tool truck comes, you buy it. Once, a now ex-co-worker needed my tubing cutter. He apparently used it on stainless tubing, resulting in the cutting wheel looking like a saw blade after Moe dragged it across Curly's head, which I didn't find out until I went to use it and it smashed the tube shut. My Dad was in commercial HVAC all his life so he always had lots of specialized tools. Getting to braze tubing as a 12 year old with him was a fun memory and I used to go with him in the summer on calls to restaurants and other places which got me interested in that field.

I recall he always had these stickers or something like it on his toolboxes and tool cases:

To me , there's a big difference in household tools and tools that you use to earn a living which is where we seemed to have drifted to .

Come to think of it, I have already purchased a replacement for an ages old self propel mower. I could loan it (the old one) out. Each mowing season, I expect it to be nearing end of life status but still going strong. Don’t expect much from the current population and you will not experience nearly as much disappointment.
