Yesterday while replacing our kitchen sink that cracked due to hot pasta water being poured into it. It is quartz and supposed to handle 500 degrees. All fine and dandy, but I guess it can't handle thermal shock of 200 degree water. So, the new sink has been sitting in the rec room for some time now as the crack wasn't leaking...until yesterday.

Wrestled with removing the old one to break the silicone seal, it's undermounted, with a putty knife, no dice, a guitar string, no f'in way! My temper got the best of me and I smashed the thing to pieces with a hammer!!! It came out though!

Got the new one in place with silicone, drilled the hole for the faucet, oh what fun that was. But yet the best to come as I'm back to laying on my back all contorted over the cabinet drop to the floor to hook the plumbing back up. Got out and go to stand up...damn the pain. Feels like a pulled muscle. Takes the breath out of me at times.

It sucks getting old...

I can feel your pain-sort of. I developed a nerve impingement in my neck following installation of a Waste King disposal. I had intense pain down my right arm for about two months before it subsided. Leave those jobs for the younger guys.

The actual sink, itself, is made of quartz? The counter tops, OK, but the sink? Confused

I have paying someone to do what I can do, but may have to start doing that.

The sink is a resin/ quartz Elkay with a lifetime warranty. Hopefully I don't have to replace this one...

Back pain sucks. About once a year or two I will be doing something insignificant that will put me on the couch for a few days. Last time I reached into a car to pick up an empty coffee cup....felt something then agony.

Hang in there.

The last time I wrenched my back, it was by picking up an incredibly heavy object: my pajama bottoms. Grr! It was days to be comfortable, and a couple weeks to really be over it. The time before that, I at least had a real excuse - moving too much firewood around.

I've developed the habit of stretching every time I go through a doorway, telling myself the stretching helps avoid another back injury. It probably just reminds me to be careful.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

Couple years ago spent a Saturday afternoon fighting with my 40ft ladder... at age 60...not smart... got up the next morning and made it to the kitchen sink (there's the other connection to this thread) was in so much pain I decide to fall on the floor and crawl back to bed... actually went back to work 5 days later...

Now to top my own story... this past November life was going too well... too much work and not enough time to get it all done... in a hurry... fell off a roof.... broke two vertebrae .... no work for a month.... am all healed... except for one thing which according to the docs will never go away... it hurts...

You have that correct, getting old really sucks. What really sucks is having to admit "I'm too old for this ..." and pay to have something done to do something you once did easily.

I've stopped counting.

I have a herniated L5S1 disk that flares up from time to time. Under normal conditions, if I'm staying healthy and not overdoing it, I don't even feel it. There have also been times I've ended up on the floor and not been able to get up, dragged myself to bed almost passing out on the way, and stayed there for days.

Lately, the extra stress is getting to me, as well as having to spend most of my shift sitting in my car since we're supposed to be minimizing contact with one another and not spending time "congregating" anywhere. I also switched back to my concealed vest carrier, as it's easier to clean every shift than my outer-carrier. All of these things combined has led to another flare up, and now I'm lying in bed with an ice pack hoping it subsides before I have to go back to work on Friday.

Kicker is, this all started in my early 20s. I'm only 35 now...too young for this shit!

Based on many years of back pain I suggest taking it easy for a couple of days and taking Ibuprofin or other NSAID if you are able. Good chance it will resolve. If not within a few days, see a doc.

I'm not a med person, just had a lot of back problems from teen years to early 70s. 3 major surgeries.

If it hurts a lot, see a doc now!

Thanks for the input and unfortunate stories. I took it easy for a couple days, rubbed Aspercreme on it, took Tylenol and used a massager on it. Helped quite a bit and while still tight, I was able to go back to work yesterday. I am taking it easier than usual though and slower too.

I carried a laundry basket of dirty clothes on top of my shoulder to the basement, next day...bursitis. Couldn’t lift my arm higher than my chest the next day.

I used to joke about old people not discussing anything other than what was ailing them....

Sorry that this happened to you. I am the world's BIGGEST baby when it comes to back pain.

Very fortunate that I do not have chronic issues; my most sincere sympathy to those who do.

I have had major back problems.
If it hurts that much, it might be a disk issue.
Hope it clears up for you.

Maybe look into that Hempvana creme that I see as advertised. Though I had my share of back issues over the last 50 or so years, I've never used a product like it. I have did tons of chiropractic appointments, various muscle relaxers, acupuncture, and just lots of ibuprofen, I've never tried a hemp creme. Thankfully I haven't had any back issues in about 10yrs.

Maybe as a last ditch alternative, you never know..
