Has anyone noticed this or is this maybe unique to this area?

Seems like in the past few years when businesses contract to get plowing and salting, these guys are going apeshit laying down the salt. Not like a coating to keep the ice at bay but they are putting down like an inch thick everywhere it seems.

I don't get it and it can't be good for the environment and I hate that my brand new SUV is all crusted up with salt now Confused

Do they also own car wash facilities which specialize in salt residue removal?

Wait until your car rusts!
Salt eats cars up like a fat kid on a popsicle.

Canadians are smarter they just use sand. Corrosion under the left front fender signals rust. That is why people buy used cars in the South.

The sidewalks in front of local businesses are so bad I have to walk my dog on the grass, so she doesn't get salt in her paws. Parking lots just as bad.

Dual purpose. Gets rid of the ice and takes care of the roadside grass/weeds. Win win.

Road salt only works well above 15 degrees. We know this just as well as the Canadians do.

My theory is time is money. They have multiple contracts they have to fill at the same time. They salt the shit out it to prevent multiple trips back to the same property.

I've shown that photo to people without them realizing that's not snow/frost. lol That was going into the grocery store one morning last(?) year.

Where I work is much the same. The vehicles die rapid early deaths.

They put more salt/brine on our roads than what's in the Dead Sea.

Yes and to ridiculous amounts in some stretches around here. One little road actually had salt piled up thick where the tires hadn’t pulverized it yet. I don’t know how much is enough on a highway but they put salt down like it’s traction sand.

The city lays down salt crystals so thick at the public bus stops that it is slick like walking on marbles.

Parking lots serviced by contractors and the highways serviced by the state all end up like the photo above - white from whatever liquid salt they spray.
