I may have posted about this before, but it's happened again.

We sell a few eggs. Maybe 4 dozen a week. We have more customers than eggs, and we have a waiting list.

I put a sign right at eyeball height on the door that says:

PLEASE DO NOT HELP YOURSELF TO EGGS. We have a waiting list. When it's your turn, we will call you.

Today, for the second time, I opened the fridge to find a dozen eggs gone and a $5 bill laying in their place. So no, they're not being stolen, but maybe they were already spoken for. Sorry, Scooter, but you're not special and you can wait in line like everybody else and if we're not home, tough shit, come back.

I've had it, there's a padlock going on that fridge tomorrow. I can hardly wait for somebody to bitch about it.

if you trust a few customers and are OK if they pick up, consider a lock like this - lets you easily set (or reset) the code. For example, if someone you trusted starts abusing the privilege or pass out the code. Link

for clarity, not intended to recommend a source for the lock - only to illustrate the type of lock we've used at our hunt club.

Oh, just curious, do you know who broke the rules (did they leave a note or just the money)?

When we had a bunch of layers we'd sell the eggs at first. 10-12 doz. a week. It got to the point that dealing with the public was torture so we ended up giving them away to friends and family who appreciated them with no complaints. Right now we have enough hens to serve our needs only and we plan to keep it that way.

Hide a game camera, or get a lock that the code is easily changed and change it daily/weekly and text the people that are supposed to pick up eggs the code. Is it possible someone on the list sent a friend to pick theirs up?

No note. Strong suspicion as to who, but no proof.

Not about to encourage people to let themselves into my house when I'm not home.

Didn't lock the shed door as B-i-L was home, but he probably didn't hear the doorbell or ignored it. He's not big on dealing with people he doesn't know.

Regarding locks.

The ‘letter locks’ are good. Your combo could be EGGS

There’s a sign on the mobile device cabinet at work that states in no uncertain terms: Devices are for this dept only. Every day there’s one or more missing and we have to check the tracking app in the system to find out who got them. People are about to start losing jobs over it. Roll Eyes

My bad... when I suggested the lock I was thinking you had an outbuilding with easy access.
